Homelessness can happen to anyone no matter your steps in life, It is important to have a community that supports and helps each other in times of need.

DWTCS is proud to announce our Final couple, Couple # 6...

Zoey Tingler & Rachel Newby!!

Zoey Tingler is a 5th-year teacher at Newport High School, and Rachel Newby has taught at NHS for 13 years and is starting her 14th year.

The two friends were standing in Rachel’s classroom when they were asked if they would be interested in Dancing with the Coastal Stars. They both thought it would be fun to try something new, and they’ve each wanted to learn how to tap dance for a long time. Zoey is especially excited to put on her tap shoes!

Outside of school, Zoey enjoys spending her weekends painting by the river, attending dinner parties, and gardening with her cat. Rachel recently took the stage as Anna in Frozen this past February and March, an experience that turned her into a firm believer in the power of wigs and jazz shoes to transform a performance.

They’re excited to take on this new adventure together and see where their tap shoes take them!

DWTCS presents...

Couple #5, Tarrah and Ryan Richardson!

We own Newport Florist and Gifts together, which is a family-run store. Our middle daughter, Savannah, works there full-time, and our other two daughters, Hannah and Fionnah, have also worked there seasonally, especially during busy times like Valentine’s Day.

Ryan likes to golf and surf. I like to garden, read, go on adventures with my family, participate in church activities, and work out at CrossFit Tuff.

We decided to do Dancing with the Coastal Stars because we were wanting to take country dance classes with Kyra. When asked if we would be interested, it seemed like a fun thing to do while also supporting a really amazing organization that improves the lives of people right here in our own community.

I am very interested in local and regenerative agriculture. I love locally grown and made foods and goods, and we would like to sell more of these kinds of things in our store. For instance, locally made candles and soaps, homemade treats, homegrown honey, vegetables, meats, and that sort of thing.

We moved to Newport, Oregon, in 2014. We didn’t know a single person in this community—not even in Oregon.

This community had everything we were looking for: the potential to own a couple of small businesses, surfing, and small-town charm.

Over the years, we have grown to love so many wonderful people in this area. We want to thank everyone who welcomed us, befriended us, and embraced us. We truly feel like we are needed here and that we belong.

Introducing DWTCS dancers 3 of 6

Ben and Cristy Stringer!!!

Ben and Cristy have been married for four years and love finding ways to have fun together and try new things. While they have no formal dance training as a couple, they definitely aren’t strangers to the dance floor — their wedding reception is still talked about for just how much dancing and fun there was!

Ben was especially excited when the opportunity to participate in Dancing With the Coastal Stars came up. He loved the idea of taking on something completely new and challenging together, and they’re both excited to see if their love of dancing can translate into learning a little actual technique.

By day, Ben is a plumbing apprentice, and Cristy works with children, youth, and families experiencing homelessness through the Lincoln County School District HELP Program. Because of Cristy’s work alongside families navigating housing instability, the mission of Samaritan House is especially meaningful to them and makes being part of this event that much more special.

Outside of work, Ben and Cristy love spending time with their family, cooking together, and getting outdoors — regardless of what the Oregon Coast weather decides to do.

For them, Dancing With the Coastal Stars is an opportunity to challenge themselves, do something memorable together, have a lot of fun along the way, and support an organization doing important work for families in their community.

Kyle and Ashley Humphry's

We’re Kyle and Ashley. We’ve been married for over 19 years and have called this community home since 2013. We have three kids who keep us busy running from school activities to sports and everything in between. And because apparently three kids weren’t enough, we also have four Jack Russell Terriers keeping things interesting at home!

When we actually have some free time, we love being outdoors and spending time together as a family. Hunting, archery, and traveling are some of our favorite things. Archery is something all five of us enjoy doing together, and we love finding opportunities to get outside, explore, and make memories as a family.

We decided to participate in Dancing with the Coastal Stars for a couple of reasons. First, we’re excited to support Samaritan House and the incredible work they do for people and families in our community. It’s an organization that does so much to help people get back on their feet, and we’re really happy to be able to support that mission.

The other reason? We’re trying to take our own advice!

We’re always telling our kids to step outside their comfort zones, try new things, and not be afraid to make mistakes. But as adults, it’s pretty easy to get comfortable and stick with what we know. So, when the opportunity came up to do something completely outside of our comfort zone, we figured we should probably practice what we preach.

Neither of us has any dance experience, so this should be interesting! We’re excited to learn something new, have some fun, laugh at ourselves along the way, and hopefully make a few memories that our kids will get a kick out of.

After 19 years of marriage, three kids, four Jack Russells, and a very full schedule, we figure we can probably survive learning a dance together. **We hope!**

School is only a couple weeks away! If you or anyone you know is willing/able to help please read the instructions below.
This is a very important time of year here at Samaritan House, kids deserve warm fresh clothes and shoes to feel secure at school:)
The parents and children are always so very grateful for the communities help during this time, they always come back from shopping so thankful and the children are super stoked to show their friends their outfit!

Good Afternoon Beautiful community!

We are looking for some help for our kiddos here at Samaritan House:)

As we all know its almost time for school, and to take some pressure off of the parents we like to reach out and see if anyone is able to help out with supplying
$25+ Walmart gift cards to help provide school clothes.

This way the kids can go and help shop for clothes they like and feel comfortable in. This is always such a special and important time of the year, being able to have new comfortable clothes and shoes really makes a difference when starting a new school year.

The gift cards will be used for things like:
*Winter jackets whiles waiting for the bus
*Shoes so they can stay comfy all year long and run super fast!
*Shirts so they can show off cool characters or style they like
*Pants and shorts that fit their growing bodies
*Maybe some extra socks to replace the ones that have been worn down from playing so much:)
And whatever other clothing items to help them get through the school year!
