💙LG UPDATE!💙

We have some VERY happy news to share…LG GOT TO COME HOME YESTERDAY!

LG is still recovering from his proud flesh surgery, and while he still has a ways to go, we are so incredibly happy with the progress he has made. His leg is continuing to heal, and now he gets to recover right here at home with his Sahara’s Sanctuary family.

It has been a long road for this sweet boy, but he has been such a trooper through it all. We are so proud of how far he has come and can’t wait to watch him continue to heal and get stronger.

Thank you to everyone who has supported LG, donated toward his care, shared his story, and kept him in your thoughts. It truly means the world to us.

Welcome home, LG. We’re so happy to have you back!🥰🐴

🐴❤️ WELCOME TO THE SAHARA’S SANCTUARY FAMILY!❤️🐴

We have some very special new arrivals to introduce, and we couldn’t have done it without YOU!

First, we want to share some wonderful news: the horse we were originally raising funds to save was successfully rescued! Because that horse’s life was secured, we were able to take the funds that were so generously donated and put them toward saving another horse who desperately needed us.

Meet our newest rescue, a 1-year-old Mustang filly.

She has been given the name Jolene, and we are so excited to give this little girl the chance at a life she may not have otherwise had. She is just a baby, and she deserves the opportunity to grow, learn, and discover what life outside of the slaughter pipeline can be.

But Jolene wasn’t the only urgent rescue we were able to help…

With the incredibly gracious help of the Standardbred Retirement Foundation, we were also able to save two Standardbreds from slaughter, a mare and a gelding.

Both were either at their deadline or had already passed it, meaning their time was running out quickly. Thanks to SRF and everyone who supports Sahara’s Sanctuary, these two now have a second chance.

Three horses who were facing an uncertain future are now SAFE.

Jolene has her name, but our Standardbred mare and gelding need names!

Drop your name suggestions in the comments below! We’d love to hear what you think these two should be called.

Thank you to everyone who donated, shared our posts, supported our rescue, and believed in giving these horses a chance. Every dollar donated to a rescue horse can make a difference, sometimes in ways we never expected.

Welcome home, Jolene, and our two newest Standardbred friends.

Your second chances start here.🐴✨

🎉 CONGRATULATIONS, BISCUIT!🎉

We are SO excited to announce that our loud, sassy, sweet Biscuit has officially found her forever home!

And what makes this adoption even more special? Biscuit is staying with a previous Sahara’s Sanctuary adopter! She is joining Teddy and Maggie, who were also adopted from us, and we couldn’t be happier knowing she is going to a home we already know and trust.

One of our favorite parts of rescue is watching our adopters become part of the Sahara’s Sanctuary family. Our previous adopters don’t just take one of our animals home and disappear they continue to follow our journey, support the rescue, cheer us on, and sometimes even open their hearts and homes to another animal in need.

We are incredibly grateful for adopters like this who continue to support our mission long after their adoption day. You are truly what makes rescue possible.

Congratulations, Biscuit! Your forever family was worth the wait.

Go enjoy your new life with Teddy and Maggie, sweet girl!

Happy forever, Biscuit!🎉🏡❤️

Sometimes, all they need is someone to lean on.

There’s something so beautiful about the trust between a horse and a human.

They may be big and strong, but horses have such gentle hearts. And when they choose to rest their head on you, it feels like they’re saying, “I feel safe with you.”

These are the moments that make everything we do at Sahara’s Sanctuary worth it.

Sometimes rescue isn’t just about saving a horse… it’s about showing them that people can be a safe place to rest. 🐴💕

CONGRATULATIONS, BOJANGLES!

We are so excited to announce that Bojangles has officially found his foster home!

This is such an exciting step in his journey, and we couldn’t be more grateful to his foster family for opening their hearts, home, and barn to him.

Foster families are incredibly important to our rescue. They help us save more horses by opening up space at the sanctuary, while giving our horses the opportunity to experience life in a home environment, receive one-on-one attention, and continue learning and growing outside of the rescue setting.

Fostering truly helps us bridge the gap between rescue and forever home, and it allows us to get to know each horse even better so we can ultimately find the best possible match for them.

We are so thankful for the families who step up and say, “We’ll give this horse a place to land. Without foster families, we simply couldn’t help as many horses as we do.

And now it’s Bojangles’ turn! 🐴✨

Congratulations, Bojangles! We can’t wait to watch you flourish in this next chapter. 💙

Easter 💗

We have a little update on our adorable miniature mule, Easter!

When Easter first came to us, we weren’t sure exactly what her future would look like. But sometimes, the rescue horses and donkeys have a way of telling us where they belong… and Easter has made it very clear that she is home.

Easter is officially becoming a permanent part of the Sahara’s Sanctuary family and is no longer available for adoption!

And she has already found her very best friend, our baby donkey, W***y 🫏💕 These two are absolutely inseparable. Even better, there are only five months between them, so they get to grow up together and have a lifelong buddy by their side!

Watching them play, explore, and cuddle together has been absolutely precious. Sometimes the best home for a rescue is right here with the family they’ve found at the sanctuary. ❤️

Welcome home, Easter. We’re so happy you’re staying! 🥰🐴

💙A VERY SPECIAL UPDATE!💙

Do you remember Bonnie and Clyde? These two scrawny little yearlings came to us back in July of 2024 with their momma it’s hard to believe just how much they have changed!

When they arrived, they were thin, vulnerable, and had so much growing and healing ahead of them. Today, they are flourishing into two absolutely beautiful horses!

And the best part? They are still together! Bonnie and Clyde were adopted into the same wonderful home, where they have been able to grow up side by side.

We still have their momma, Dolly! She has been safe here at Sahara’s Sanctuary, and now it’s her turn to find the happy ending she deserves.

✨ Bonnie and Clyde’s momma, Dollyis looking for her forever home! ✨

She has come such a long way since arriving at the rescue, and we would absolutely love to see her find a family of her own where she can be loved, spoiled, and cherished for the rest of her life just like her kiddos!

From two scrawny little yearlings who needed a chance to the beautiful horses they are today. This is what rescue is all about. 💙🐴

💙 LG UPDATE!💙

We have some really encouraging news on our sweet boy LG and his proud flesh recovery journey!

LG is doing very well, and we are so happy with the progress we’re seeing. The margins of his proud flesh are getting much smaller, and the skin is slowly but surely beginning to close in around the wound.

Recovery from proud flesh can be a long process and requires a lot of patience and careful wound care, but LG has been such a trooper through it all. We are taking things one day at a time and are so thankful to see his body healing.

We still have a ways to go, but we are headed in the right direction! Keep those good thoughts coming for LG. 🐴💙

Welcome to all of our new followers! 🐴❤️ We are so happy to have you here at Sahara’s Sanctuary!

I thought it was the perfect time to introduce myself! My name is Tessa, and I am the founder and Director of Sahara’s Sanctuary. When you message the page or comment I’m the one that replies! Horses have been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember—I’ve been riding since I was just four years old.

Outside of the rescue, I work full-time as a marine biologist at a local aquarium. My two passions may seem like completely different worlds, but caring for animals has always been a huge part of who I am.

Sahara’s Sanctuary is especially close to my heart because it was created in honor of my heart horse, Sahara. I lost her three years ago, after we spent 13 years together and while losing her was one of the hardest things I’ve ever experienced, her memory inspired me to turn my love for horses into something bigger.

I started this rescue in her honor, with the hope of giving horses a second chance at the life they deserve. Every horse that comes through our gates becomes a part of our story, and I’m incredibly grateful that you’re here to follow along.

Thank you for supporting Sahara’s Sanctuary, cheering on our rescues, sharing our posts, donating, adopting, and simply being here. This rescue may have started because of one very special horse, but it continues because of all of you.

Welcome to the family!
— Tessa ❤️🐴
