Since 2003 The Friends of Touro Park have honored its mission to maintain and beautify Touro Park benefiting Newport’s residents and visitors. Within the park there are designated gardens surrounding the statues of Admiral Oliver Perry, William Ellery Channing and the Flag Pole circle along with informational tablets detailing appropriate events and historical sites and properties. The volunteers of The Friends of Touro Park design, gather donated plant materials, plant, w**d and water the three gardens described. The only source of perennial and annual plants have been donated from the Preservation Society’s green house and generous individuals within the neighborhood. Aside from Newport visitors, school children playing, residents enjoying the sun and picnicking, the annual events in the park include the Black Ships Newport, the Portuguese and Italian festivals, the Daffodilion celebration, the annual City sponsored Easter Egg hunt. In September, 2019, the Moving Wall Vietnam War Memorial celebration was displayed in Touro Park.

2020......The Friends of Touro Park are hoping to get renewed interest in Touro Park this year.

The park will likely host fewer events this year than previous year due to the covid-19 event......we will try our best to make our gardens bloom.

So we ask your help in making the park festive and welcoming this year either by donating plants and helping plant the gardens in June, and keep them w**ded and watered during the summer or by making small donations to the cause.
