Remember the reason for Memorial Day. This weekend, and everyday, we honor members of the Military who have given their life in battle. Some were lost in the killing sands of Iraq or the mountains of Afghanistan. Some are members of older generations where blood was spilt and our men and women died during World War II, Korea or Vietnam.
And there are others who took their lives during the continued mental health battles here at home. So, during this weekend while you are grilling or enjoying your time with family and friends, Remember them all!

I know we have some extremely talented young students eager to share their artistic creations! The National contest for Illustrating America is one of a few different contests/scholarship opportunities open to our young Americans every year! Let’s get them involved at our local post level to hopefully move up through District, Department, and on to National!!

VFW Auxiliary 6248 in Michigan recently shared the winners of the Illustrating America art contest from their local elementary school, though some students entered through other, nearby Auxiliaries.

They write, "Thank you to the art teacher, Mrs. S., for introducing the contest to her students in grades first through eighth grades and to (the school) for allowing the program to be presented. Thank you to judges, Jan Roeder, Judy Kish, and Bennett Cooper, for volunteering time to pick the winners."

They also share that the reward for student participants (which included the entire school) will be an Ice Cream Day in May.
