We are so saddened to hear of this news today. We pray for the family, friends, coworkers and all of the community who will be greatly impacted by such a tremendous loss. Tim's years of dedicated work will continue to benefit our community in countless ways for many years to come. We thank you, sir. May you rest easy.

Today, our hearts are broken.

It is with profound sadness that we share that our Director, Tim Dockery, has left this world.

For more than three decades, Tim dedicated his life to parks and recreation and to serving the people of Newport. But the impact of his life cannot be measured in years, projects, programs, awards or titles.

It is measured in people.

In the generations of children who grew up in our parks. In the coaches, employees and young professionals he encouraged along the way. In the friendships and partnerships he built. In the places throughout our community that are better because Tim cared enough to believe they could be.

Tim believed deeply in this department. He believed in his people. And even as we celebrated some of our greatest accomplishments together this year, he was always quick to remind us that none of it belonged to one person. It belonged to the team.

That was Tim.

For those of us fortunate enough to work beside him, he was more than our director. He was our leader, our mentor, our friend and the heart of this department.

There are simply no words big enough for this loss.

We will miss his stories. His laugh. His stubbornness. His wisdom. The way he could make us laugh when we probably weren't supposed to. The way he loved this community. And the way he believed, right up until the end, that there was still more good work ahead of us.

Tim spent his career creating places where people could gather, play, grow, belong and make memories.

Now, we will carry his work forward.

We will take care of the places he loved.
We will take care of each other.
And we will do our very best to make him proud.

Thank you, Tim, for believing in Newport.
Thank you for believing in this department.
And thank you for believing in us.

Your legacy is everywhere.

Rest easy, Director. We'll take it from here. ❤️

🌟 THRIVING THURSDAY🌟

This week, we’re shining a spotlight on someone whose heart for children, community, and the arts is making a lasting difference right here in Cocke County

💛Gretta Carr!💛

Gretta has a true passion for seeing children thrive and believes in creating opportunities for them to learn, create, dream, and discover their own potential. That passion shines through in the many ways she gives her time and talents to our community.

Through her work with Keep Cocke County Beautiful, Gretta helps champion a cleaner, more beautiful place for families to live, work, and grow. 🌿

She is also a driving force behind East Tennessee Artscapes, helping bring creativity, art, and meaningful experiences to our area and, especially, to the children who will carry our community forward. 🎨✨

Gretta’s dedication to serving others was recognized with the Pay It Forward Award which is a fitting honor for someone who continually gives of herself to make a difference in the lives of others.

She also serves with the Newport Main Street Association, lending her time, energy, and passion toward building a stronger, more vibrant downtown and community. 🏘️❤️

Gretta is a wonderful example of what Thriving Thursday is all about , people who don’t just talk about making a difference, but roll up their sleeves and make it happen.

Thank you, Gretta, for investing in our children, championing the arts, caring for our community, and helping make Cocke County a better place for all of us.

That’s what thriving looks like! 💚

May we all aspire to be more like Dolly❤️

She lived a life that truly showcased a servant’s heart. She not only entertained the world with her incredible musical talents, but also inspired generations through her love of reading, philanthropy, and unwavering commitment to being true to herself.

Her legacy is a beautiful reminder that success isn’t measured only by what we achieve, but by how much good we leave behind.
