Their names deserve to be remembered.
The Remember. Honor. Preserve. series exists because these stories matter, and because forgetting them is not something we are willing to do.

If you know of an MWD handler or military working dog who was killed in action and should be included on our honor list, we want to hear from you.

Please reach out to us at [email protected] with their name, branch, unit, and any details you are able to share.

No story is too old. No name is too obscure. Every one of them matters.

Remember them. Honor them. Never let them be forgotten.

Happy 110th Birthday to the United States Army Veterinary Corps!

On June 3, 1916, the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps was formally established through the National Defense Act. One hundred and ten years later, the mission endures.

From the care of cavalry horses to the protection of the food supply, the Veterinary Corps has evolved with the Army's needs. Over time, as cavalry units gave way to mechanized forces, the government-owned animal mission shifted largely to military working dogs, while the food mission expanded to encompass many aspects of public health.

Today, the Army Veterinary Corps care for military working animals, safeguard the food and water supply for troops at home and abroad, and support readiness in every theater of operations. They are force multipliers. They are essential to the mission.

To the Army Veterinary Corps, past and present: your service matters. Your work protects both those who serve and those who cannot speak for themselves.

110 years. Still serving. Still essential.

Today, we paused.

From 0600 to 1700, we honored the fallen heroes of the Military Working Dog community, the handlers and the K9s who stood together in the most dangerous places on earth so that others could come home safe.

Their names deserve to be spoken. Their sacrifice deserves to be remembered.

We will never forget.

Remember them.
Today, and every day.
