Also on Monday, our Deputy CEO, Kaaleah Jones, returned to her alma mater, Crittenden Middle School, to welcome students back and show them some Cougar love! 🙌🏽💜🤍

It is always meaningful to return to the places that helped shape us and encourage the next generation. Wishing Crittenden’s students, families, teachers, and staff a safe, successful, and amazing school year! Go Cougars! 🐾

We were up and at em early this morning with Assistant Principal Fenner, NN Office of Community Safety, and our Partner in Community & HHS alum, Erica Callicutt at Heritage High School, welcoming the students back with smiles and Positive Vibes .. We hope all students have an Amazing Start to their school Year 🤍✨

We really enjoyed our Youth Career Program (YCP) summer interns; Chris (16 yo Denbigh High rising Senior) and Shelby (19 yo ODU rising Sophomore).

They showed up everyday early, engaged, and ready to add insight to our Youth Public Safety Council.

After they completed orientation and onboarding to learn about our mission, vision and programs .. We trained them as Youth Public Safety Council Ambassadors on:
✅ Defining Crash Out
✅ Community Violence Intervention (CVI) Overview
✅ De-escalation and Trauma-Informed Listening
✅ Facilitation 101
✅ Storytelling and Narrative Control
✅ Media & Elevator Speech Training
✅ Civics 101: Government Advocacy and Organizing
✅ Youth Mental Health First Aid
✅ Virginia Department of Health REVIVE! Opioid Crisis Response
✅ Rewire Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) — Think, Feel, Do Skill Training

Then they were ready and able to apply the lessons learned in community and witness first hand what partner support looks like by assisting/attending the:

Both of our interns found value in the experience and an appreciation for the work we do in community. So much so they said they don’t care about the money— they just want to help 🫡💪🏽🔥
