Youth Volunteer Corps of Hampton Roads, an affiliate of Youth Volunteer Corps, connects youth (ages 11-18) to meaningful volunteer and service-learning opportunities. Middle and high school students are challenged to develop cross-cultural competencies, a stronger sense of self-efficacy, and an expanded network of peers, as well as increased career-readiness and life skills. Projects are supervised and facilitated by trained Team Leaders.

Sixteen incredibly talented youth joined us this afternoon for our Back to School Pizza and Painting for a Purpose project to help us finish the remaining tiles of our inaugural Mural Mosaic. Youth have shared their story of service and what community means to them and this mosaic is going to be beautiful because of their efforts. On September 11, we remember the heroes we lost and the courage they showed. On September 12, we carry their legacy forward — together, as a community.

Join Youth Volunteer Corps of Hampton Roads and Youth Service America's We Serve to Remember initiative for the Walk for Compassion:

📅 Saturday, September 12, 2026
🕓 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
📍 City Center Fountain Plaza, Newport News

Walkers will take laps around the fountains while youth-led service stations, benefiting local community organizations, line the plaza — turning every lap into a chance to give back. It's a hands-on, uplifting way for our community to reflect, connect, and serve side by side.

Open to local youth (ages 11-18). Bring your family, your friends, your team!

YVCHR’s Summer of Service 2026 was PACKED with fun, purpose, and connection from start to finish! 🎉 Our camps gave youth the chance to gain volunteer hours, build leadership skills, and dive headfirst into community involvement — and wow, did they show up and show OUT. 💪✨

The numbers speak for themselves 📊:
🙋 127 unduplicated volunteers
🏕️ 9 camp sessions across the Peninsula and Southside regions
⏰ 2,658+ hours served

That’s a whole lot of heart, hustle, and community impact in just one summer! 🌻
