Youth Volunteer Corps of Hampton Roads, an affiliate of Youth Volunteer Corps, connects youth (ages 11-18) to meaningful volunteer and service-learning opportunities. Middle and high school students are challenged to develop cross-cultural competencies, a stronger sense of self-efficacy, and an expanded network of peers, as well as increased career-readiness and life skills. Projects are supervised and facilitated by trained Team Leaders.

YVC youth showed up on a rainy morning to wrap diapers for the Greater Hampton Roads Diaper Bank distribution. With some teamwork and a few well-oiled assembly lines, they wrapped 6,000 diapers!

Diapers are a basic need that many families struggle to afford, and thanks to these amazing young volunteers, thousands of families across Hampton Roads will have access to this essential necessity.

Proof that when youth come together, big things happen, rain or shine!

This time last week, YVCHR was in New Orleans for the 2026 YVC Summit! It was an amazing opportunity to join other YVC affiliates from across the globe to learn and serve together in the heart of the city.

The YVCHR team led an impactful “Price of a Pot” simulation which allowed youth to experience budget constraints, family responsibilities, and unexpected life events…all while cooking pots of hearty stew! The food was then donated to free pantries in NOLA - and locals facing hard times were eager to have a home-cooked option! It was eye-opening for many of the youth to realize that hard-working people can be one “unexpected event” away from struggling to pay bills and feed their families.❤️‍🩹

YVCHR also facilitated a communal art project, with participants each painting a tile to reflect a meaningful service experience or a contribution that they’ve made to their community. We are eager to see this Mural Mosaic come to life in 2027! 🎨

The awards banquet was an incredible way to recognize the efforts and dedication of the youth, program leaders and affiliates! Kudos to our 100-in-1 Awardees and to Kiley Jensen for being recognized with the Innovation Award for her innovative service-learning lessons! We are so proud of the entire YVCHR team and grateful for the year-round energy and passion they invest into our Hampton Roads youth! ❤️🧡💛

Our hearts are happy. Our minds are inspired. And our bellies are full of beignets.😋

Showing up and making a difference!✨Huge shout out to 2 of our awesome youth volunteers for spending their Friday afternoon participating in the United Way Day of Caring. They rolled up their sleeves to help beautify Equi-Kids, an equine therapy center in Virginia Beach.🐴 We love activating youth to support their NEIGHbors!

25 years ago on 9/11, the sky was impossibly blue. Cloudless. Ordinary. And then it wasn’t.

On Saturday, our sky was gray and heavy with rain. Our community showed up anyway. Walked anyway. Served anyway. And our youth led the charge.

Different skies. Same truth: in the storms, the helpers show up.

Thank you to every young person, family, and volunteer who joined us for YVCHR’s Walk for Compassion. We serve to remember. 🇺🇸

This Saturday marks 25 years since September 11th - a day that changed our country forever and revealed the very best of who we can be for one another.

YVCHR's Walk for Compassion is our way of saying we have not forgotten. We will walk, we will reflect, and we will serve because that is what they did for us.

A little rain won't stop us either! Stations, like this one, will move indoors to Fountain Plaza II Conference Rooms. The walk around City Center fountain will continue for those who want the full experience.

All service projects will move indoors (Fountain Plaza II Conference Rooms), and for the brave souls who don't mind a little drizzle, the walk around the City Center fountain is still on.
