Serve the City Peninsula

Serve the City Peninsula Serve the City: volunteering to do acts of kindness for those in need on the Peninsula. It’s a street, the train tracks, a river, a sidewalk.

There's a line in every city that separates the rich from the poor, the strong from the weak, the haves from the havenots. On one side there is safety, on the other there is danger. On one side there is security, on the other fear. On one side kids go to college, work pays well, and needs are hidden behind drawn curtains and consumable goods. On the other life is pretty raw. It's time to cross the

line. Serve the City is an international movement mobilizing volunteers to serve in simple ways—through sports, music, art, meals, friendship and more. We’re the connection between the good intentions of people who could serve and meaningful opportunities to get
involved. And that’s how it starts: we cross the line from where we are. But it's only the beginning. The dream of Serve the City is everyone serving. As soon as possible, we invite those we have served to serve with us, because what we really want is to cross the line together.

🌟VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: James Reynolds🌟
At Serve the City Peninsula, we are blessed to have volunteers who not only show up to serve but also step up to lead. This month, we want to recognize James Reynolds for doing exactly that! James has been a dedicated volunteer, consistently giving his time, energy, and heart to serve others in our community. Recently, James has taken his commitment to the next level by stepping into the role of Project Leader. Leadership in our organization means more than organizing a project. It means inspiring others, solving challenges, and ensuring that every volunteer and resident feels valued and supported. Thank you, James, for your willingness to lead, your passion for serving others, and the difference you make in our community. Volunteers like you help make our mission possible every single day.

Serve the City Peninsula was honored to partner with the Choice Neighborhood Initiative in the revitalization of the Marshall-Ridley neighborhood in Newport News. As we celebrate this final groundbreaking, we are excited to see the vision come to life—a thriving community where residents can flourish, families can grow, and neighbors can build a brighter future together. We are grateful to be part of this transformative journey and look forward to the lasting impact it will have for generations to come.

A Message That Made Our Day! One of the greatest rewards of serving others is hearing how a simple act of kindness can make a real difference. Today, we received a heartfelt voicemail from Ms. Ocock, an 80-year-old widow of a veteran whose property was recently transformed by our incredible Serve the City volunteers. She called to express her gratitude and share some wonderful news: after the extensive yard cleanup and landscaping work completed by our volunteers, the Code Compliance citation on her property was lifted! Stories like Ms. Ocock's remind us that when we come together to serve, we do more than transform yards, we transform lives.
