Wondering what that statue in Eisenhower Park is for?

The statue showing the quote "We have met the enemy and they are ours" by Admiral Oliver Hazard Perry from the naval victory of American forces in the Battle of Lake Erie over the British on 9/10/1813 during the war of 1812.

A ferocious battle with around 80% casualties on the American side, the battle turned the tide in the war and greatly diminished the British and Native American power in the area which may have held back American expansion to the west.

The statue erected in 1885, was a winning design by a Newport local William Green Turner during a competition sponsored by the city.

Have you been to Tiverton's newest Dog Park?

We (and our pup) finally took a trip and couldn't be more impressed with the work put into making this Dog Park a reality by the organizations involved!

The park offers small and large dog areas, toys, bags, water bowls and tons of room for your furry friends to run and play. πŸ•β€πŸ¦ΊπŸ•πŸ© The dog park is also located next to Bulgarmarsh Playground for those families with kids and pups!

Designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1968 due to it's many preserved colonial era homes, Newport Historic District spans a roughly 250 acre area in the center of Newport, RI.

The Newport Historic District Park is marker of the district in addition to being a small, quaint park within the neighborhood. Offering a nicely shaded area with a bench and dog bags, this park can be a great spot to sit and cool off on these hots days while walking downtown with or without your pup!
