I recently had a fellow spiritual seeker share with me his sister was shunned by her Baptist Church and Minister for separating from her abusive husband. The Minister came to where she was staying and actually told her she would be rejected by the Church and she would go to hell if she did not go back to her abusive husband.
I was saddened to hear this because this was supposedly a “Man of God” but also angry because I consider it Spiritual Abuse to threaten any “child of Got” that they will go to hell if they don’t obey rules at the expense of their own wellbeing.
I want to share some thoughts regarding her judgemental Legalistic threatening minister. First In Mark 2:27, when criticized for breaking Sabbath traditions to meet human needs, Jesus stated: "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.". He would never punish the vulnerable for not obeying rules and always held the sanctity of life over any rigid moralistic judgemental rule,
Marriage was made for a sacred trust the sanctity of preserving the intimate bond in a relationship not to give “power over” to anyone to be abusive.
Love is always a higher calling over any rule based dogma - for God is Love. John 4:8: "Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love." This is repeated throughout the Bible
Jesus always showed mercy, forgiveness and kindness - not shaming and threats of punishment if you don't obey my rules.
There is another story that comes to mind where Jesus was chastised by a deciple - putting shoulds on him not being a good son leaving his Mother and brother stand outside the home where Jesus was performing healings. It was so crouded in the house that no one outside could get in. They had to drop a cripple through the roof to get the man to Jesus
The disciple basically told Jesus you are remiss in you family duties "shouldn't you (be a good son ) get your Family inside. There was nothing wrong with Jesus caring for his Family but he wanted to make a point to rebuke anyone using guilt and Family obligations or legalalistic should thinking over spiritual principles. This is found in Matthew 12:46–50, Mark 3:31–35, and Luke 8:19–21
Jesus repeatedly redefined Family and Christian Values always in contrast and against Authoritarian "should rule blind obediance " Jesus said "who is my Family? " My Family is those that do the will of God" (not authorian shoulds") A legalistic Minister says the will of God is "shoulds.”but is it really?
Corinthians 13:13 says The greatest of all is love and without love I am nothing.” This comes right at the beginning of the chapter in 1 Corinthians 13:2.
So What does this mean “To Do the Will Of God “ It’s found in the first and second greatest commandments • Matthew 22:37, where Jesus states, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and Matthew 22:39: and then Jesus states , "And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself'" this is the second greatest commandment,
In Mark 12:31: Jesus repeats these commandments noting that "No other commandments are greater than these. So It boils down to following the will oh God (Love) is to “Love Loving “ If it's not loving it's not God
This means To Be a place for God to shine PAGL. Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16).
We don’t need to ask an external authority we need only to ask ourselves if it meets the Spiritual Criteria for Peace, Assurance Gratitude and Love. In Matt 23 Jesus sharply rebuked the scribes and Pharisees (whitewashed tomb) for their hypocrisy, pride, and prioritizing rigid external rules over core spiritual values and mindfulness.
And That's All I have to say about that.
So I tell anyone to own their own spirituality and don’t believe or do anything unless it come with PAGL.
What this minister did is not Love and this is certainly not of God or PAGL.
So if there is no PAGL in it “Get The Behind me “ and kick the dust and dirt off your feet Blessings and Love Always to everyone in our Facebook Family.
