Silence. That’s what was felt on this day many years ago. Jesus had tried to explain the Father’s plan to His disciples, but they didn’t understand. So on this day they felt silence, they felt hurt, they felt pain, and they thought this was the end. But thankfully we know it’s not! Talk to your child about how the disciples may have felt. How would they have felt if they were a disciple? Explain how sometimes God uses silence to prepare our hearts for something amazing. Sometimes the silence and pain leads to beauty and praise!

Good Friday, a day full of all emotions. When we think about the pain and suffering our Savior had to go through our hearts are heavy and saddened. But when we think about what all the hurt means, we are filled with joy knowing that all of our sin and shame was hung on the Cross and stayed there! Talk to your child today about what Good Friday means for them, for Him, and how it leads to Sunday! Let us praise Him today for all that He endured for our sins.

Tomorrow we face the Cross. Sometimes when we take a look at the Cross we see a Savior who this decision was forced on, because that’s the only way people can “justify” what Christ did. But that’s simply not true. This decision was a choice for Jesus, and He chose to save us. Tomorrow we will see how amazing His love is for us. Let us praise Him, for He chose us and that is the most amazing thing! Talk to your child about Jesus’ decision, and the decision they can make to follow Him because of the Cross!

This passage beautifully showed the price of Jesus’ sacrifice and how it was His choice. After reading the passage, talk about the pain Jesus went through, but how He CHOSE to do it. Talk about how He took our place so that we could be free. Discuss what this verse means to you, and your child.

As we continue to prepare our hearts for Easter, it is important for our kiddos to understand sin. You may be wondering why, why focus on sin when Easter is about Jesus? The truth is though, if it weren’t for sin there would be no Easter. To kids sometimes they don’t even understand that they have sinned or what sin really is. We believe this conversation about sin highlights even more how great Jesus’ sacrifice was. Or maybe they’ve been picked on, even though that person has hurt their feelings, Jesus’ sacrifice is STILL for them. Even the worst of the worst, if they accept who Jesus is, His sacrifice on the cross covers them. Paul, who was Saul, killed Christians, but turned and realized who Jesus was and was FORGIVEN. Once we take a look at what sin is and look towards the Cross,it is so wondrous that our debt has been paid. So talk about sin, talk about forgiveness, and talk about how the Cross, Jesus, and His love makes our new life possible.

As our children prepare their hearts for Easter, we think it is important to help them understand the depth that this weekend holds. Start by having a conversation with your child today about who Jesus is to them. As you discuss who He is, His sacrifice will be so much greater when they see Him as their own.
