Not every act of service comes with a ribbon-cutting. Sometimes it's just showing up with diapers.

The Rotary Club of Newnan wrapped up this year's service project lineup with a drive benefiting Coweta Pregnancy Services — because local families need practical support just as much as they need anything else.

Thank you to our members who gave, and to Coweta Pregnancy Services for the care they bring to Coweta County every day.

Another great speaker at Rotary!

Coweta County Juvenile Court Judge Joseph Wyant told the Rotary Club of Newnan this week that state budget shortfalls are keeping children in foster care longer than the law intends, because families are being required to complete services that the state isn't providing.

"We're dealing with kids and they're resilient," Wyant said. "Unlike with adults sometimes, we have this opportunity to make a radical, lifelong change."

Before Rotarians speak, act, or make decisions, we ask ourselves four questions: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

This simple ethical test has guided Rotarians since 1932, helping us make decisions that create positive change in our communities and the world.

What a fitting farewell for one of our own. This Wednesday, we had the honor of hearing from State Rep. Lynn Smith as she wraps up 26 years of service to Coweta County and the state of Georgia.

Lynn touched on some of the biggest issues facing our state right now — Georgia's literacy gap, rising housing costs, income tax rebates now hitting mailboxes, and a major new legislative complex coming near the Capitol. But what stayed with us most was her closing thought: "If you're quiet and silent, nothing happens. Good people have to always step forward, not back."

Thank you, Lynn — we're proud to call you a fellow Rotarian. 🎉

Some of the most inspiring People of Action in Coweta County aren't yet old enough to vote — and they're already changing their communities.

The Rotary Club of Newnan proudly sponsors two Interact clubs: one at Newnan High School and one at East Coweta High School.

These student-led clubs embody the spirit of Service Above Self, taking on service projects, developing leadership skills, and connecting with a global network of young Rotarians while they're still in high school.

Newnan High's Interact Club has earned five consecutive years of national recognition through Rotary's Presidential Citation — a testament to the dedication and impact of its student members and advisors. East Coweta's club brings that same energy and commitment to the other side of the county.

This May — Youth Service Month — we're proud to celebrate these young leaders who aren't waiting until "someday" to make a difference. They're doing it right now.

April is Environmental Sustainability Month in Rotary. Around the world, Rotarians are planting trees, cleaning waterways, promoting renewable energy, and protecting natural habitats.

At the Rotary Club of Newnan, we support local sustainability through community partnerships and service projects that protect Coweta County for future generations.

ROTARY 101: What is Service Above Self?

Service Above Self is more than a motto — it's the foundation of everything Rotary does. It means putting the needs of others before our own and working together to create lasting change in our communities.

At the Rotary Club of Newnan, we've lived this principle since 1924 through scholarships, community grants, youth programs, and service projects like our July 4th fireworks and Tour of Coweta cycling event.

Curious about Rotary? Visit us any Wednesday at noon at Newnan Country Club. Guests are always welcome.

Rhodes Shell and Keith Brady, Coweta County Master Gardener Extension Volunteers, joined us this week to preview the 2026 Spring Tour of Gardens — happening Saturday, May 9th, the weekend before Mother's Day.

The self-guided tour visits five unique Coweta County gardens, each chosen for its educational value, with Master Gardener docents on-site at every stop to answer questions and share ideas you can bring home to your own backyard.

The jewel of this year's tour is Dunaway Gardens. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the property opened in 1934 with 22 terraced levels, 12 spring-fed pools, and a 700-seat amphitheater carved from solid rock. Tallulah Bankhead performed there, Walt and Roy Disney visited, and Minnie Pearl — then known as Sarah Colley — perfected her craft on its stages. Now being lovingly restored, Dunaway Gardens has an exciting new chapter ahead: the Debbie Allen Dance Academy will be built on the property, its first location outside of Hollywood.

Tickets are available by calling the Coweta County Master Gardeners' office. Don't miss it! Next Wednesday: Khing Banks from Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta joins us at noon at Newnan Country Club.
