A Coweta County family is asking for the public’s help after 65-year-old Stanley McCheyne died from injuries sustained in a hit-and-run while riding an electric bicycle in Newnan.

McCheyne was struck Sept. 22 behind the Starbucks near Ga. Highway 34. He was taken to Piedmont Newnan Hospital and later transferred to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died Sept. 29.

Georgia State Patrol reported no witnesses were able to identify the vehicle involved, and investigators found no useful surveillance video from the area.

His longtime partner, Annette McCheyne, is hoping someone saw Stanley that morning, witnessed the collision or noticed a vehicle leaving the area.

Anyone with information can contact Annette McCheyne at [email protected].

Grantville is famous for slowing drivers down.

On Labor Day weekend, it'll be encouraging people to go as fast as they possibly can.

Downtown Grantville will trade speed limits for sprint finishes on Sunday, Sept. 6, when it hosts the inaugural One Love Criterium and the Georgia State Criterium Championships, bringing cyclists from across the Southeast to Coweta County for a full day of racing.

Organizers also plan a youth bicycle clinic, bike giveaway, food vendors and family-friendly activities throughout the day.

Businesses and individuals interested in sponsoring or volunteering can contact organizer Eufemia Cabrera-D'Amour at [email protected] or 201-780-7873.
