Did you know when we talk about overdose, we are not only talking about illegal drugs? An overdose can also involve prescription medications, especially when they are misused, mixed, or taken incorrectly.
That is why knowing how to respond matters.
๐Ÿ’œ Join an online Narcan training on August 31 for International Overdose Awareness Day and learn how to recognize an opioid overdose and use naloxone.

A big thank you to Georgia 911 Good Samaritan Law for providing this important training and helping communities stay prepared to save lives.

๐Ÿ’Š The hidden danger in fake prescription pills. This National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Dayโ„ข, empower yourself and your kids with the info you need to stay safe: http://bit.ly/4mOOl58

In Coweta County and across the country, counterfeit pills are on the rise, and many look nearly identical to the real thing. According to the DEA, a striking number of fake prescription pills now contain a lethal dose of fentanyl.

Here's what every parent and caregiver needs to know:

๐Ÿšจ Only take medicine from a licensed pharmacy or a trusted medical professional. Never buy prescription pills online or from unverified sources.
๐Ÿšจ Fentanyl is 50x stronger than he**in and up to 100x stronger than morphine. Even a tiny amount can be deadly.
๐Ÿšจ Know the warning signs from your loved one and/or your children: changed friend groups, secretive behavior, missing meds, or odd pills found at home.
๐Ÿ”’ Lock up your medications. Request a free medicine lock box from Drug Free Coweta to keep prescriptions safe and out of reach.

One pill can change everything. Awareness is prevention: let's protect our kids and our community together, starting with a conversation today.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Talk to your teen. Secure your meds. Get involved.

A good way to kick off Friday! ๐Ÿ’œ

Today is National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day, and our morning started with the Drug Free Coweta Coalition coming together at Coweta FORCE / Friends of Recovery Troup, who graciously hosted our meeting, to walk through our next 12 months of prevention activities and discuss how our members Coweta Family Connection, Family Patterns Matter, Inc., Wholistic Stress Control Institute, Inc. (WSCI) , Coweta County School System and Coweta FORCE can help turn our plans into action.

After the meeting, our coordinator also visited Hope Haven Recovery Centers and the newly opened Coweta Outpatient Detox grand opening for a quick tour, introductions, and an opportunity to learn more about local recovery resources.

Today was a great reminder that prevention is more than a program or an event. It is education, awareness, strong partnerships, early conversations, and connecting people to resources before a crisis happens.

When a community is informed and connected, prevention becomes stronger. ๐Ÿ’œ

Ever wonder what it takes to build a safer, healthier Coweta County for our young people? ๐Ÿ’™

We use the Drug Free Communities framework to bring youth, families, schools, local organizations, community leaders, and everyone together around one shared goal: creating an environment where young people feel supported and empowered to make healthy choices.

Prevention happens when we work together. That means giving youth a voice, connecting families with helpful resources, partnering with schools and community organizations, and building strong relationships across Coweta County. ๐Ÿ™Œ

Everyone has a role to play, and every effort makes a difference. By working together, we can strengthen prevention, support our youth, and help build a healthier future for our entire community. ๐ŸŒฟโœจ

Itโ€™s been a week since our youth returned to school, and with beautiful weather expected this weekend, itโ€™s a great time to reconnect. As you spend time with your children, take a moment to check in with them. Ask how school is going, how theyโ€™re feeling, and really listen to what they have to say. A simple conversation can make a big difference.

A new school year brings new opportunitiesโ€”and new conversations.

Talking with your child about topics like alcohol, peer pressure, mental health, social media and asking for help can build trust, strengthen resilience and help them make healthy choices throughout the year.

Our latest Inspired to Make Healthy Choices newsletter includes simple conversation starters and practical tips to help parents navigate these important discussions with confidence.

Yesterday, our coordinator attended the Newnan-Coweta Chamber Nonprofit Alliance meeting. A big thank you to Coweta Cares, a Mobile Integrated Mental Health Program, for all you do to support and strengthen our communities!

It was also wonderful to see so many nonprofit peers coming together to connect, share ideas, and learn from one another. Weโ€™re grateful for opportunities like these to collaborate, grow, and continue building stronger communities together.
