Thank You, Preacher Colin Duncan!

Westside Baptist Church extends our heartfelt thanks to Preacher Colin Duncan for spending the last four Sunday evening services with us, teaching us about Christ through the furnishings of the Tabernacle.

Brother Colin, thank you for the time, prayer, and preparation you poured into each lesson. You helped us see the beautiful ways the Tabernacle points us to our precious Savior and gave us a deeper appreciation for God’s Word and His plan of redemption.

We are grateful for your willingness to share your heart and knowledge with our church family. These evenings have been a blessing, and we will carry what we have learned with us as we continue to study the Scriptures.

You are loved and appreciated at Westside! May the Lord continue to bless you as you faithfully serve Him and share His Word.

With love and gratitude,
Your Westside Baptist Church Family ❤️

Hard circumstances don’t change who God is. When you’re facing a difficult season, bring your heart to Him in prayer and praise. Read Acts 16 and consider how God can meet you in your midnight hour.

Day 1 Devotion

Praise in the Midnight Hour
Acts 16:22-25; Psalm 34:1

Paul and Silas had been beaten, shackled, and placed in prison. Yet at midnight, they prayed and sang praises to God. Their worship did not wait for their circumstances to improve. They praised while still hurting and still confined. This does not mean that pain is unreal or that faith requires us to pretend everything is fine. It means our hardship does not have the final word about who God is. When we cannot see what God may do next, we can still turn our attention toward his goodness and bring him our honest prayers. Our praise may steady our own hearts, and others may hear it too. The prisoners listened. In difficult seasons, faithful prayer and praise can become a quiet testimony: God is worthy, even here. We need not know how the story will unfold before we seek him.

Reflect
What situation in your life could you bring honestly to God in prayer and praise today?

Prayer
God, meet me in this difficult hour and help me trust your goodness as I pray and praise.

Sunday, October 11, 2026 - Sermon Summary Notes

Pastor Alton reflects on Paul and Silas praying and singing in prison at midnight, despite being beaten and shackled. Their praise was not dependent on being freed; it expressed trust in God while they were still suffering.

In Acts 16, an earthquake opens the prison doors and loosens the prisoners’ bonds. Paul and Silas stay, and their care for the jailer—who is close to taking his own life—leads to a question about salvation. They share the message of Jesus, and the jailer and his household believe and are baptized.

The sermon urges Christians to pray and praise through hardship, remembering that their witness may encourage others and point them to Christ. It also calls those who do not know Jesus to seek salvation in him, the sermon’s central hope beyond any immediate change in circumstances.

Key takeaways:

🔹Pray and praise God even while hardship continues.
🔹Paul and Silas worshiped before the prison doors opened.
🔹Faithfulness in suffering can become a witness to others.
🔹The prisoners heard Paul and Silas pray and sing.
🔹Paul and Silas stayed when they could have fled.
🔹The jailer’s crisis opened a conversation about salvation.
🔹The sermon presents Jesus as the answer to humanity’s deepest need.
🔹God can work through difficult circumstances in ways we may not expect.
🔹A believer’s faith can influence a household.
🔹The sermon invites listeners to trust in Jesus for salvation.
