Ewing sarcoma most often occurs in teenagers and young adults, but the exact reason why is not yet fully understood.

Researchers believe this may be linked to periods of rapid bone growth during adolescence, when cells are dividing and changing more quickly. The disease is driven by a specific genetic change called a fusion gene. While scientists understand how this gene functions, they are still working to understand why it appears more frequently in this age group.

Answering these questions is essential to advancing research — helping scientists better understand how Ewing sarcoma begins and how to develop more effective, less toxic treatments.
For teens and young adults facing this disease, those advances matter deeply. 🎗️

During Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Awareness Month, it’s an important reminder that progress depends on sustained research and collaboration. 🎗️

Sarcoma represents about 1% of adult cancers and, like many rare cancers, faces delayed diagnoses, limited treatment options, and less research funding.

Rare cancers account for nearly 25% of all diagnoses but receive far less investment. At Sarcoma Foundation of America, we’re working to change that by funding research, supporting patients and families, and advocating for better outcomes.
