Our adult clients have autism, PDD and intellectual disabilities -- many with dual and multiple diagnosis. Many have been turned away from other facilities due to behavioral and health issues; some of our friends have no living family members.

Thank you to all of our Day Programs, and to "Mr Mike" for his inspiration and his values of service that we have just completed our 5th Valentines for the Troops project. A fantastic total of 225 cards are on their way Overseas, to VA hospitals, local VFW Lodges and Homeless Veterans. Having served myself over four decades ago I can tell you that it means a lot, particularly in a foreign land, a challenging setting far from "home" literally or figuratively receiving a card, a letter or note was a huge morale boost and more than very gratefully received.

Yesterday we had a Christmas party at each of our Program sites for all of our Residential and Program only clients, a special thank you goes to Joanne and Victor for their generosity in funding the event. As you can see from these great photos everyone had a fantastic time, and a special lunch was enjoyed by clients and staff alike as well as a party gift for our friends to open. Thanks to Lori, Justine, Kay and Kristen for sending us in these photos that capture the joy of the day admirably.

Some nice photos of some recent mall outings, avoiding the rain and cold and a nice image from one of our specialized Programs, this one providing a safe environment to some friends with severe peanut and tree-nut allergies and some from our regular weekly visits to the Turtle Back Zoo, already dressed up for the Holidays.

For many years now, particularly late October, we have been going to the Disney on Ice shows at the Prudential Center in Newark. This year was no different, we had a party of over 125 clients and staff attend, which is quite something. Notable this year was how few other guests attended the show due to the conflicting Halloween events, it was nice for us not to have the arena be so busy! As always the show was spectacular, lots of different sights and sounds, and on top of all of that we had lunch at the event too. What could be better? Thanks to the families and Providers from out of area who provided early transport to our Programs so those clients could attend, as well as our team of staff and colleagues who made everything run so smoothly on behalf of our friends..

We have made numerous day trips this week to the Sea Life Aquarium at the Meadowlands complex in Rutherford, the photos posted here tell the story of the fantastic adventure and the awesome fun that everyone had on these outings, I'm thinking that for sure we will be going back in the future, to top the great days out off everyone had their favorite lunch out on the way back to ALFA.

It's been very busy at ALFA the past week or so with many of our friends from all of our Program sites going apple and pumpkin picking at destinations in Sussex County and just over the border in New York, we have lots of apples to eat and lots of pumpkins to decorate now! the hay rides were a real favorite for everyone that attended, thanks to Justine, Ryan, Kristen, Lori and Jalissa for sending these great along to us.

We have added a number of musical and sensory items to our activity park and trails at our Union Valley Program site, this specially designed all weather equipment adds another layer of engagement for friends using the park, all ALFA Homes and Programs have access to this equipment as well as the swing sets, teeter totters and trails and picnic facilities and memorial benches that already in place. We have several more items ready to install on our trails, these are all mounted into concrete for safety of everyone using them. Thanks to Scott, Steven and Ferris for their work to make all of this happen.

We had over 140 friends plus staff at the Sussex County Fair last week, split over several days our groups really enjoyed visiting many different fair attractions such as arts and crafts, themed displays, farm based and other animals,stationary fair attractions to name just a few, the weather was very kind to us and everyone had their lunch at the fair from the many on site food concessions. As you can see by the collection of awesome photos a great time was had by all.
