Friday and Saturday nights, temperatures are expected to fall below 32 degrees F with wind chill for two or more consecutive hours.

Code Blue sheltering will be provided and can be accessed:

🏫 During business hours (M-F 8 am - 4:30 pm):

Visit the Department of Social Services (DSS) at 320 W MLK/State Street, or
Call DSS Emergency Housing Services at (607) 274-5030
📱 After hours and on weekends:

Call non-emergency dispatch at (607) 272-2444 to be connected to DSS on-call
Code Blue is a New York State–mandated emergency program that ensures overnight shelter during freezing conditions when temperatures are expected to fall below 32 degrees F with wind chill for two or more consecutive hours.

If you need assistance accessing shelter, message Second Wind Cottages’ Homeless Crisis Alleviation team via DM. We want to ensure your safety, especially with temperatures dropping.

Second Wind’s newest program is the Violence Interrupter program. Our VI works in the city of Ithaca in collaboration with our Homeless Crisis Alleviation team and other community partners, but with a specific and unique purpose.

Sub-zero temperatures and heavy snowfall are in the forecast throughout the weekend and into next week. This poses an extreme danger for individuals experiencing homelessness. If you see someone who appears to be unsheltered, please don’t hesitate to reach out Second Wind’s Homelss Crisis Alleviation team at +1 (607) 262-8757. If someone appears to be suffering cold-weather conditions like hypothermia or frostbite, call 911 and request immediate medical attention.
