Clear Fork of the Cumberland

Clear Fork of the Cumberland The Clear Fork of the Cumberland River Watershed (TN) winds its way from Bell Co., KY into TN in Claiborne Co. on through Campbell Co. Project Goals:
1.

where it meets the Elk Fork from Scott Co. in Jellico finally emptying into the Cumberland River in Whitley Co., KY.. The Tennessee portion of the Clear Fork of the Cumberland River Watershed is located in East Tennessee and includes parts of Campbell, Claiborne, and Scott Counties. The Clear Fork of the Cumberland River and Watershed are named for the clear spring-fed headwaters that form Clear F

ork in a narrow limestone gorge in Kentucky. Clear Fork originates in Bell County, Kentucky. It flows through sections of Claiborne and Campbell Counties, then flows north into Kentucky, joining the Cumberland River at Williamsburg, Kentucky. Building capacity to enable the long-term stability and success of issue related projects.

2. Assisting sponsoring organization in conducting the watershed research and water quality monitoring critical to future funding.

3. Enhancing community awareness and involvement through community education and outreach.

4. Support the efforts of community revitalization through economic development projects and celebrate and increase the awareness and understanding of local history and culture.

While conducting compliance checks along the Cumberland River in Whitley Co., Warden Johnny Fulton took a photo with a successful fisherman and the large paddlefish he caught. Congratulations to the angler on a great catch!

πŸ’§This , we appreciate the rivers that sustain us. Most people in the U.S. live within a mile of a river. Yet, many don’t realize just how connected we are to our waterways β€” or how vital they are to our daily lives.

This map shows the vast network of rivers, lakes, and streams across the country β€” stretching far and wide, touching every community. Rivers provide drinking water for millions, sustain wildlife, and shape the landscapes we call home.

This week, a Tennessee waterfall was turned temporarily green as part of St. Patrick's Day celebrations! πŸ€

This dye injection at Virgin Falls State Park was conducted as part of the Scott's Gulf hydrology study, in collaboration with the United States Geological Survey and Tennessee Department of Environmental Conservation. The Nature Conservancy's Bridgestone Nature Reserve at Mountain Chestnut is within the watershed and project area, making it a key site for this study. Downstream, it was exciting to see the waterfall emerge from a cave, creating a dramatic scene before sinking directly into another cave.

Why Dye Traces? πŸ’§ Dye traces help understand underground water movements in areas like the Cumberland Plateau Escarpment, where water can move in mysterious ways, defying topography and hydrologic models. The dye is temporary and non-toxic to fish, wildlife, and plants. It's the same dye used to find groundwater connections for water wells and is completely safe.

It's National Groundwater Awareness Week.πŸ’¦ Groundwater is one of 's most valuable natural resources.

πŸ’§ More than 1.5 million Kentuckians are served by 185 public water-supply systems that rely on groundwater, and 416,000 Kentuckians use water wells or springs.

πŸ’§ Kentuckians use about 156 million gallons of groundwater per day.

πŸ’§ Kentucky Geological Survey managers the Kentucky Groundwater Data Repository, which archives and distributes groundwater data: https://kgs.uky.edu/kgsweb/DataSearching/watersearch.asp.
