No, I won’t ever stop saying it: the $1.8 BILLION is to arm its own private militia, and the ballroom is its doomsday bunker it plans to hide out in while the rest of us stupidly murder each other.
I understand what our country is being dragged through is brand new to 99% of Americans. It’s not brand new to all of us. Some of us spent decades fighting this same crap all around our shared world. We’ve seen this exact same pattern dozens of times. 🥜 🆙 🇺🇸
BREAKING: BUNKER BOY BUSTED! Trump’s latest excuse for his $600 million ballroom IMPLODES as officials reveal the White House already has a nuclear-proof bunker!
Donald Trump has been trying to save his metastasizing White House ballroom project by insisting that it isn't just a ballroom anymore – it’s a critical national security project, complete with bomb shelters, drone defenses and a “military complex.”
There’s just one rather enormous problem: The White House already has a massive nuclear-hardened bunker buried more than 60 feet underground.
Three former officials told WaPo that the highly protected facility was secretly completed during the Obama administration and can shelter the president and dozens of top officials for weeks.
Buried deep under the DC swamps and accessible by private elevator, it was specifically designed to withstand a nuclear blast and allow the president to continue running the country during a catastrophic attack.
In other words, it already does pretty much exactly what Trump now says his ballroom project urgently needs to do.
Trump has increasingly cried “national security!” as courts threaten the project, telling the press that “the ballroom is so much a military component with the drones and the bomb shelters.” His administration has told the Supreme Court that the underground facility and ballroom are now “inextricably intertwined.”
Army Secretary Dan Driscoll fell in line even further, calling the new underground complex a “nondiscretionary prerequisite” necessary for Trump to maintain control of the government during an attack or global crisis.
But former officials told the Post that the existing bunker already includes many of the same safety measures the administration is invoking to justify the new complex, including protection against weapons of mass destruction.
And yes, the White House bunker should sound familiar.
The older EOC was no theoretical hideaway. Vice President Dick Cheney and other senior officials worked from there during the Sept. 11 attacks, with Cheney directing the government’s response from inside the bunker (photo, right).
Trump was famously rushed into the same emergency facility during the George Floyd protests in 2020, earning him the nickname “Bunker Boy.” He later insisted he'd only gone down there for an “inspection.”
Now the administration has created another remarkable problem for itself. Former officials warned that Trump's abrupt demolition of the East Wing may have damaged or destroyed that older bunker and exposed what lay underneath, potentially creating national security risks of its own.
A federal judge already had a brutal response to the administration's argument that construction must continue because stopping now would be dangerous.
“Defendants themselves forged ahead and created this ‘coordinated and managed safety hazard’ on White House grounds,” Judge Richard Leon wrote.
There may be legitimate reasons to upgrade White House security. But Trump wanted a ballroom, its projected cost exploded to $600 million, courts started getting in his way, and suddenly the ballroom became an urgent national security necessity.
Unfortunately for Bunker Boy, there's already a nuclear-proof bunker more than 60 feet beneath the White House built to keep the president alive and the government running.
That’s one hell of a bunker-sized hole in his latest excuse.
