We are swimming in flowers right now. Finally! Even Dahlias :-), despite such a late start for them this year. Now the goal is to thank as many people as we can who have so kindly and generously supported the work we do. We also donate to our partners to create joy in as many places as we can. Here you see Skidompha Secondhand Book Shop Barters Island Bees Hodgdon and Edgecomb Greens Eldercare Glidden Point Oyster Farms and Alison Evans Ceramics and flowers went to the Second Congregational church in Boothbay for their support. We will do our best to thank as many people as we can before the frost flies with the capacity we have. We so appreciate everyone who has brought us to where we are and we hope they realize that! We’re in the midst of planning to dig our new, and much needed, well build our new Greenhouse, and thinking about a wash pack station. Fundraising for that and tool shed are on the docket. Oh, and we’re also donating flowers to all of our recipient sites weekly. On top of this!

Just a wee bit of what was going on on the farm today. From amazingly beautiful green and white cucumbers, cucumbers, green and yellow zucchini, Asian eggplant, and so many sunflowers we sent so much wonderful food off into the community today along with tomatoes, celery, and many many other flowers.

We will be at Rising Tide Co-op every Wednesday this month from 11 -1. We will be chatting about our mission and why it’s more important now than ever. We love getting to know our community and expanding our reach. Also the joy of having the month of September to do this is that we can also sell beautiful blooms. We almost never sell our flowers but once in a while we do so we can create even more joy for our community as well as our recipients. Of course, all the money we make will go right back into feeding local people living with hunger. We love this partnership with Rising Tide and being their September coop recipient.

Taylor has been volunteering on the farm since season one. She walks through the woods and is here to help. It’s always a pleasure to have our neighbors involved in Veggies to Table here. We are cleaning beet 🫜 greens and beets 🫜 and bunching up rainbow chard. It was all donated out to the community.

We love interplanting so we get the most out of each bed. We plant crops together that are companions and grow well next tk each other. For example, tomatoes, basil, and carrots all can grow at the same same time, along with a lot of flowers all around them. And, this not only helps get you more crops , but also helps with pest control because certain flowers help reduce pests. at Bath Savings to thank them for their continued support and sponsorship. We love our community and could not do our work without them. I love the smile on Debbie‘s face. We’re excited that their team will be coming to visit the farm very soon. That way they get to see everything we’re doing in person and the difference they’re making in our community.

They’re coming. The Dahlias. These are peaches and cream. And the way you cut them is the way you get them. They don’t keep developing off the stem. Also make sure to look at the back of your Dahlias as if they’re turning brown. That’s a sign that they’re past their prime. I’ll start posting more about these as much as I can so you guys can learn along with us. It’s been a really challenging Dahlia season and this is very late for the first first real blooms. But we’re hopeful that we’ll have a late frost as well :-)
