1st Lt. Derek Hines Soldiers Assistance Fund Derek Hines was born on July 9, 1980 and died on September 1, 2005 in Baylough, Afghanistan. Derek's family set up the 1st Lt.

The 1st Lieutenant Derek Hines Soldiers Assistance fund intends to provide financial assistance for Massachusetts’s soldiers, and their families, who have incurred serious, career ending, and life altering injuries while on active duty. His unit was conducting security operations and came under attack by enemy forces using small arms fire. Even after he had been fatally shot, 1LT Hines continued t

o fire at the insurgents. Derek was a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point where he flourished both academically and as a hockey player. He was named captain his senior year and in 2007 he was awarded the NCAA Award of Valor. Derek Hines Soldiers Assitance Fund in 2007 to give back to those putting their lives in danger for the United States.

Race Information & FAQ

PACKET PICK UP | Race participants are welcome to pick up their packet on Friday, June 12th from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm, or Saturday, June 13th from 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm. If able, we highly encourage coming on Friday to get your bib to save time on race day.

NO ON SITE REGISTRATION | There will be no onsite registration. Participants who have not registered will be asked to register on their phone before picking up their bib. If you have not signed up already, please visit FLAGDAY5K.COM and register prior to arriving at packet pick up.

PARKING | Parking is available at 202 Merrimac Street.

PETS & STROLLERS | Pets are allowed to run the course, but are not allowed on the field pre or post race. We appreciate your understanding so we can keep the fields in perfect condition for the local teams. Strollers are welcome. If you are running or walking with a stroller, we ask you line up towards the back of the start line to give others space to start.

KIDS FUN RUN | The Kids Fun Run is a short run around the perimeter of the soccer field. It is free to enter and all kids are welcome. Please plan to be at the field prior to 3:00 pm if you would like your kid to participate to ensure we have a timely start.
