On February 11, 2021, the Atanasoff Family’s life was changed. After many tests, it was concluded that sweet, energetic, fun-loving Heeth has Aplastic Anemia, a rare blood disorder that affects only 600-900 people per year. Heeth's life has suddenly been halted and consumed by constant clinic visits and regular transfusions. From the start, Heeth's family has been working with ’s Organ T

ransplant Association (COTA), which provides families like Heeth’s with support, guidance and fundraising assistance. Heeth was scheduled for a bone marrow transplant in April, which when successful is a cure, but unforeseen medical circumstances caused a pivot to immunosuppressive therapy, a treatment. Whether a transplant is in Heeth’s future remains to be seen, but his family remains partnered with COTA. COTA funds are available to patients for “transplant-related expenses,” which by definition includes all the life-saving expenses that result from the diagnosis that would require a patient to be transplanted, so Heeth’s family is able to make use of these much-needed funds now and into the future. Funds are available for eligible expenses for a patient’s lifetime and COTA’s services are free of charge.
