Maddie's Hands (a small card business started for our special needs daughter) is a give back which I am calling "Re-PurPurse". I had seen an image with a purse full of items and it suggested giving it to a homeless woman and felt inspired to put the word out with the hopes that individuals will collaborate with Maddie's Hands to collect and deliver to small charities who serve the homeless and the
needy. I had contacted one place who serves 253 adults- that is a whole lot of filled purses or backpacks they need! I started looking into other places and am really moved by the need just here in New Hampshire alone. How it works:
COLLECT - From family, friends, work or school
WHAT -gently used purses or back packs, toothbrushes, toothpaste hand wipes, hand sanitize,hand warmers, feminine products, deodorant, shampoo and conditioners or 3-1's, soap, lotion, razors and shaving cream, lip balm/chapstick, make up, Kleenex, first aid, water bottles, socks, gloves,hats, scarfs.(underwear and bra's are also a hard to come by expense)used jewelry, gum and candy, packaged powder drinks are a nice item to add as well. You name it, we'll take it and if it doesn't fit in our purses or backpacks, it will still go to the shelters. NEXT - Have them delivered to you filled or unfilled and try to make each purse as equal as possible. For example: if we get a donation of a three pack of hand sanitizer, we'll separate the pack to make sure three purses get one. We will arrange places/people to collect and deliver all the bags to a local charity. They will contact me with numbers and where they are delivering them so that we can make sure the goods get spread around! I hope we will grow and be able to help all around the state and maybe other Hands in other states will feel called to do the same.
