These pieces of Newburgh history are worth salvaging, even if only remnants of them. We hope to convert this into much needed housing at the same time.

Our 2025 Year in Review is ready! We created new homeowners, stabilized several buildings inside and out to make them ready for full scale renovation and acquired more vacant and abandoned properties. We have many projects in the works to continue to transform the neighborhood surrounding Lander St that faced the highest level of vacancy and abandonment when we started our work in 2012. We will continue to bring out the best in this historic city while working to ensure that it remains accessible to all.

78 Lander St:
We started structural stabilization work here this week after we completed asbestos remediation at the end of 2025. This building is part of a larger project involving 72 and 76 Lander and other adjacent lots that will provide 12 units of affordable rental housing and 2 commercial spaces. The City of Newburgh was awarded $1.45 Million in Restore NY funding from Empire State Development, with the land bank as the sub recipient. The buildings are currently still owned by the City of Newburgh, but the land bank has an agreement that enables us to develop the properties. We are in the process of securing funding from several other sources and using our grant from the NY State Land Bank Initiative to do the stabilization work and planning. We have assembled a team of architects, designers and engineers who are helping us address the serious structural conditions of the buildings and develop an innovative design that also takes into account the historic aspects of the properties and neighborhood. We believe the renovation of these long neglected buildings will have a transformative impact on Lander St.

11 S. Miller was acquired by the land bank this summer after it sustained a devastating fire in 2022. We immediately got to work cleaning out the damage and were finally able to put a roof on it and install new joists before the major winter storms would have certainly been even more damaging. About 80 cubic yards of debris were removed. has drawn up plans for the full scale renovation we hope to begin soon. Scroll through for some before and after images. ***Thanks to Carlos Arturo Contracting for all the heavy lifting and excellent roof installation***
