The Band did an awesome job at Rose Hill today! I always receive several good comments about our participation. We've been performing for this event for well over twenty years. We had 47 musicians today and I seem to recall that we only had ten or twelve in the early years. A shout-out to Jerry for exploring a new seating location this year. It's always a challenge to try to avoid all of the gravestones, gopher holes, and tree roots.

Our next event is Tuesday, June 30th. That's a regular rehearsal night and the ODCB and Warrick County Schools are hosting a concert by the Indiana 38th Army Infantry Division Band from Indianapolis. The Army band is planning a full program of about 1 1/2 hours and at this point we are unsure exactly what role the ODCB will be playing. Jerry and the Army Band director are still working on the protocol. It's been pretty much decided that this will not be a side-by-side concert. If we do play a piece or three to open the program it will likely be something from the fireworks show we are doing in Henderson on July 3rd.

Here are the tunes you need to have on hand for the next rehearsals:

Music Selections for JULY 3, 2026 in Audubon Mill Park on the Ohio in Henderson.
1. #1071 - American Fanfare
2. #964 - The Star Spangled Banner
3. #564 – Georgia on my Mind
4. #026 – Washington Post March
5. #989 – Can’t Help Falling In Love
6. #967 – God Bless America
7. #807 – Crooner’s Serenade
8. #1137- Nearer, My God, To Thee
9. #038 - Count Basie Salute
10. #874 – March Grandioso
11. #553 – Nettelton
12. #988 – Sway
13. #1152- To Honor America
14. #1 – Armed Forces Salute
15. #986 – My Old Kentucky Home

If Needed:
#869 – Last Full Measure
#574 – You’ll Never Walk Alone
#891 – Jersey Boys
All of the tunes should be on the Google Drive. If you need the link please email me at [email protected] If you spot any problems please let me know. Please note we have multiple arrangements of some tunes so please refer to the number to make sure you have the correct tune.

We are scheduled to play for the Rose Hill Cemetery Memorial Service Saturday morning. Call time is 9:45am with a quick rehearsal at 10 and a program downbeat at 10:30. I've not heard anything from the cemetery or The American Legion post about cancellation. Watching the radar.... it looks like the rain is supposed to clear out by daybreak. Feel free to use your own judgement.

My driveway is clear and should be enough to park well over twenty cars if you try your best to 'pack em in'. Don't worry about getting parked in. We'll get you out afterwards. There may be some parking on the grass at the lower level across the street from my house but trying to park on the road going into the cemetery is strongly discouraged. Cemetery will pick you up at my house and take you up the hill to the performance site. Chairs will be furnished.

If anything changes I'll try to get the word out via email and Facebook.

I printed out all of the "Washington Post March" Sousa-Yoder #26 parts... added our library number... and created a new .pdf file. The new file was attached to your last email and is also on the Google Drive. I think the only parts that have changed are the treble clef euphonium and trombone parts but you might want to check the new file against the part you already have.

Reflecting on Jerry's suggestion last night about part assignments... it's important that all the parts to all of our tunes are covered. The part you are asked to play may change from one rehearsal or concert to the next. When you print your part you should consider printing also alternate parts. If you ordinarily play 1st... it would be good for you to also print the 2nd part and so forth. On a flex arrangement if you normally play the 5th part it would be helpful if you also have the 4th part as long is in the same key or playable range. If you play 2nd... also print out a 3rd and so forth.

Repeating...

- No BBQ tomorrow.
- The 'Little' Old Dam Band will meet on Saturday at 9am. The lift is working so you won't need to climb the stairs (unless you really want to!).

You should be getting used to this by now.... but there may be parking problem tonight so you might consider parking in front tonight. Regular rehearsal starts at 6:30. Make sure you have your Rose Hill Memorial Service music with you.

Well.... It's pretty obvious that there will not be a concert at Friedman Park tonight. Jerry and I met for lunch and just decided that we should all stay home tonight and sort out our music for next week. Everything on the Google Drive is 'fair game' and should be up to date to cover us tor the rest of the year. We did just add a new tune... #1167 - "Bach Air" that you need to print and add to your folders. Our next performance is the Rose Hill Cemetery Memorial Service on Saturday, May 23rd at 10:30am.

The tentative list of music for Rose Hill is:
#967 - God Bless America
#2051 - The Prayer
#26 - Washington Post March
#571 - Star Spangled Banner
#569 - America the Beautiful
#369 - Marches of the Armed Forces
#158 - Battle Hymn of the Republic
#1197 - Nearer, My God, to Thee
#869 - Last Full Measure
#574 - You'll Never Walk Alone

Refurbishment of the ODCB utility trailer is under way. Working around the rain and not know who might be available makes is difficult to schedule a work party but let me know if you can help remove the old lettering adhesive and swab on new paint and when you might be available. Once the trailer is fully painted white... it Signs by Design will apply new lettering and logos.

- No BBQ this week.
- No LODB this Saturday because the LODB has a performance at Primrose Retirement Home in The Pub on Saturday at 10am.

#1051 - The Prayer

Friday looks like a great night for a concert. Word has it that Monte Skelton will be playing. The temperature is supposed to be cool so dress warm. Call time is 6pm.... earlier to get the percussion to the stage. The trailer will be there at 5:30 and we could use a hand with the timpani. The concert is at 7pm. Bring a chair, music stand, instrument, and wind clips. Sorry but parking is always a challenge here. Try parking on the south side of French Island Trail where they sometimes store construction materials and the boat dock.

04/28/2026

No concert at Friedman Park. Go to Castle South Middle School for a regular rehearsal.
