The Old Dam Community Band

Thanks to all for another great rehearsal last night. Jerry was correct in saying that our band is getting better every day and is a MUCH better reading band than it was twelve ot so years ago. My personal opinion is that this is due to the fact that Jerry is such a patient and good teacher as well as a top-notch director.

Here are a few things we have coming up:
- Sunday, November 1st (time change day) at 1pm is our Annual Meeting. Unless we come up with an alternative venue the meeting will be held again this year at The Kiwanis Building on Filmore Street in Newburgh. The Band will furnish the fried chicken, soft drinks, and utensils. Band members should bring a veggie or desert. We'll be voting for board members for new three-year terms. The terms of Joe Harbert, Mark Myers, and ..... expire at the end of 2026. All three are seeking new three-year terms. If there are any new nominees from The Band please let me know within the next week.
- Sunday, November 22nd at 2:30 is the Evansville North Main Street Parade. Some have already signed up. The parade trailer comfortably holds 17 musicians. Mark and Joan Steffenhagen cornet & baritone, Karen Gray alto sax, Beth Strecker alto sax, Pat King piccolo, Jeff Middleton tenor sax, Tom Twedell cornet, Kyle Obermeier cornet, and Dan Schultz tuba have already signed up. We could use a couple of trombones, clarinets, and a drummer, and perhaps an F horn. Let me know. I'll be glad to give up my seat if someone else wants to play tuba. We'll be playing a couple of simple tunes out of the Hal Leonard book.
- Friday, December 4th at 7pm is our Christmas concert at the First Christian Church.
- Sunday, December 6th is Newburgh's Christmas Lights Parade at 6pm. Last year it was quite cold and not very pleasant but if there is enough interest... I will pull the trailer.

Some music for 2027 is already on The Drive. Based on a discussion last night... I'll be digitizing and putting up "The Lone Arranger" medley. We attempted to play this about 15 years ago and could never get it up to performance level. We thought we could give it another shot. You can find it on You Tuba by searching for "The Lone Ar-anger" by Phillip Buttall. It will be a week or so before I have the tune digitized and up on The Drive.

- The 'Little' Old Dam Band will meet Saturday morning as usual. Plus... Dan and Sara Solano will be here with the new baby if other band members want to stop by and chat.

Our annual meeting is coming up on Sunday, November 1st. Unless another more suitable venue 'pops up'... we will meet at The Kiwanis Built again this year. The terms of Joe Harbert, Mark Myers, and Pat King expire at the end of 2026. All three will be running for new three-year terms. Additional nominees will be accepted through the end of October and we will be voting for three board members at the annual meeting.

Excellent concert last night. This band just keeps getting better and better. We made great use of the small stage and I thank you all for the extra effort. It's been a busy week so let's take next Tuesday (September 29th) off. Maybe you'll want to take in the Fall Festival that evening. Besides... I know that some of you have likely procrastinated getting your Christmas ready even though it's been on the Google Drive for a couple of months. This is all new music purchased especially for this Christmas. Now you'll have another week to print it out and look it over. Let me know if you need the link.

I think I have already created Christmas music for the 'regulars' who usually request it. If you cannot find it just ask and I'll see that you have music.

- No BBQ next Thursday.
- The 'Little' Old Dam Band will meet next Saturday (October 3rd) followed by a Board Meeting.

Great concert last night. Much thanks to those who arrived early to help unload the trailer and stayed late to reload after the concert. A special thanks to Tom Twedell who worked beyond the call of duty to learn more about our new audio equipment. We will have a repeat of the same concert this Friday (September 25th) at 7pm at The Allen Family Amphitheater on the Newburgh riverfront at 7pm. Please be in your seat and tuned for a quick warm-up at 6:30. I'll be there earlier with the trailer. This venue is a smaller so ALL cases, etc. that won't fit COMPLETELY under your chair need to be left off stage. Don't forget to bring a chair, music stand, and battery-operated stand light.

- No BBQ this Thursday but plan on meeting on Thursday, October 1st.
- No 'Little' Old Dam Band this Saturday since we have an ODCB concert the night before.

The forecast for next Tuesday evening is looking better all the time. The chance for rain has dropped to zero and the temperature is looking more like 75 or so for the evening. Keep you fingers crossed. We'll keep our eyes on the radar and let you know as soon as possible if there is any change.

In the event of rain.... the 'rain date' is Tuesday, September 29th at Friedman Park.

This same public concert will be repeated on Friday, September 25th at 7pm in the Allen Family Amphitheater on the Newburgh Riverfront at Newburgh's Old Lock and Dam Park. Again... We'll need a few sturdy souls to help unload the trailer and position percussion and sound equipment at 5:30PM. Bring your own chair and music stand. A battery-operated stand light might be helpful.

We just got word that there is BOTH a volleyball game AND football practice going on at Castle South Middle School tonight. Perhaps it would be best to park on the east side of the building. We'll try to have the east entrances open. Be patient!

Good rehearsal last night. Thanks to all for your cooperation. With a couple more rehearsals we'll be ready to perform a fine concert. We're planning to break out the new sound equipment next Tuesday. The trailer will be at the school at 5:15 to allow a few extra minutes to get everything inside. A few extra hands to help get stuff inside will help avoid delay the start of rehearsal. Here is the concert order that Jerry posted on the board:
