On October 9, 2025, at approximately 8:17 AM City of Newburgh Police responded to a shooting incident inside the residence of 184 North Miller Street. Officers arrived and located a single victim inside the residence who was deceased from a gunshot wound. The victim has been identified as an 11-year-old juvenile male.

The City of Newburgh Detective Division and the Non-Fatal Shooting Task Force immediately began investigating the incident. During the investigation a firearm was recovered, and three juveniles of interest were identified and quickly located by police.

The coordinated response of the City of Newburgh Police Department and the Non-Fatal Shooting Task Force and all partner agencies resulted in an arrest within 12 hours of the incident. On October 9, 2025, a 13-year-old juvenile male not related to the victim was arrested for Murder in the 2nd Degree, a Class A Felony.

The City of Newburgh Police Department extends gratitude to our partners in law enforcement for their assistance in this investigation: the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, Orange County District Attorney Investigators, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force, State Police, ATF, Town of Newburgh Police Department, and Hudson Valley Crime Analysis Center.

On October 9, 2025, at approximately 8:17 AM City of Newburgh Police responded to a shooting incident inside the residence of 184 North Miller Street. No further information about the victim or the incident will be released at this time.

🔵 CNPD MAKES ARREST IN SHOTS FIRED INCIDENT 🔵

On September 27th, 2024, at approximately 11:35PM, City of Newburgh Police responded to the area of William Street and South William Street for a report of shots fired.
​
Responding officers located evidence of gunfire, including four 9-millimeter shell casings. This case was assigned to the City of Newburgh’s Non-Fatal Shooting Team. During the course of the investigation a suspect was identified, and criminal charges were drafted.
​
On February 17th, 2025, Police Officer Hurtado, Officer Alvarez, Officer Meyer, and Officer Gil responded to a call for service, observed the shooting suspect, and were able to safely place him into custody.
​
As a result of the investigation by the Non-Fatal Shooting Team, Jyaire Adams, a 20-year-old City of Newburgh resident, was arrested and charged with felony weapons possession for the September 27th shots fired incident.
​
This case was investigated by Detective Edgar and Detective Salazar.

On January 6, 2025, City of Newburgh Police received a call for a stabbing in the area of 515 Broadway. Arriving officers located two males suffering from injuries sustained during an altercation with each other at AutoZone Auto Parts, 536 Broadway - one male suffering from apparent stab wounds and the other from an apparent gun shot wound. Officers on scene gave immediate medical care and both males were transported to Montefiore St. Luke’s.

The male suffering from stab wounds is being treated for what appears to be non-life-threatening injuries. The male who suffered a gunshot wound has deceased. No names are being released at this time.
​
The City of Newburgh Detective Division, along with Investigators from the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, are actively investigating this incident. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the City of Newburgh Detective Division at 845-569-7509. All callers will remain anonymous.

Today, we are highlighting the incredible CNPD career of recently retired Sergeant William Anderson, who faithfully served the City of Newburgh for over 41 years.
​
Sergeant William Anderson began his career with the City of Newburgh on March 31, 1983, and recently retired on October 5, 2024.
​
During his career, Sergeant Anderson served as a member of the Patrol Division, Narcotics Division, K9 Unit, SWAT Team, Detective Division, Anti-Crime Unit, and finished out his career as a Patrol Sergeant. The PBA thanks you for your dedicated service and all you have done for us and the department over the years!

On September 7, 2024, at approximately 3:55AM, City of Newburgh Police responded to the area of 182 Lander Street following a report of a shooting.

Responding officers located two victims who were transported to St. Luke’s Hospital with injuries that do not appear life-threatening.

This incident is being investigated by the Non-Fatal Shooting Task Force. Identities of the victim will not be released at this time.

On July 31st 2024, at approximately 12:15AM, City of Newburgh Police conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle in the area of William St. and Renwick St. Officers made contact with two occupants of the vehicle, which was found to be unregistered. The vehicle was impounded and while conducting an inventory of the vehicle, a loaded Smith and Wesson .357 Magnum was located, along with 5.5 grams of Fentanyl and 4.1 grams of crack co***ne.

City of Newburgh Detectives interviewed both occupants of the vehicle, to which one occupant, Duane Clark, confessed to possessing the firearm and narcotics. Clark, a convicted felon, was subsequently charged with felony weapons possession as well as felony narcotics offenses.

On July 31, 2024, at approximately 12:40PM, City of Newburgh Police responded to 38 Spring Street for a report of shots fired.

Responding officers located multiple shooting victims. Emergency Medical Services were requested and provided aid to two victims. Both were transported to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital.

City of Newburgh Detectives and the Non-Fatal Shooting Task Force were summoned and commenced their investigation.

Both victims are currently being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Identities of the victims are not being released at this time.

The suspect remains unknown.

City of Newburgh Police were assisted by the New York State Police, Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Join the City of Newburgh Police Department and city officials for the National Night Out on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The event will be located on Broadway, beginning at the intersection of Johnston Street down to the intersection of Liberty Street.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer and better places to live in. This event enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

This year’s National Night Out promises to be a fun-filled evening for the whole family featuring music, games, free food, community resources and more! The Police Department will also be on the scene actively engaging with the community. We encourage all residents to come out and join us for this special event.

On July 24, 2024, at approximately 10:57PM, the City of Newburgh Police Detective Non-Fatal Shooting Task Force, led by Detective Sergeant Kevin Jodice, put together a group of Detectives along with Officer H. Dolshun, to patrol for narcotics and weapons enforcement.

In the area of Third St and City Terrace, which is an area of focus due to recent narcotics complaints and shooting incidents, the Detectives observed Ziquan Jenkins. Jenkins had an active warrant related to a previous felony fi****ms case and a previous felony robbery case, also involving a firearm.

Detective Salazar and Officer H. Dolshun were first to exit the police vehicle and approach Jenkins, who immediately fled on foot from police. Detective Salazar and Officer H. Dolshun gave chase pursuing Jenkins on foot.

Jenkins led police into the common area of 207 Third St, where Officer H. Dolshun and Detective Salazar were able to take Jenkins into custody.

At the time of arrest, Jenkins was in possession of a loaded 9mm semi-automatic ghost gun firearm, as well as narcotics. Along with the outstanding warrant charges, Jenkins will be charged with felony weapons possession and narcotics offenses.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office, a GIVE Non-Fatal Shooting Task Force partner, is assisting with the investigation.

The City of Newburgh Civil Service Commission is now accepting applications for the upcoming Police Officer and Police Officer (Spanish Speaking) exams. The exam will be held on September 28, 2024, and the filing period is open from July 15 to August 15, 2024.

To be eligible, applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be between the ages of 19 and 34 (except for qualifying veterans). Preference in appointment will be given to City of Newburgh residents. Successful candidates will enjoy a competitive salary, excellent benefits, and the opportunity to serve their community. Women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply. For more information, including the application, study guide, and complete details, visit www.cityofnewburgh-ny.gov.
