MilMil Update! Millie continues to heal and do well while her Momma is off at work. It will still be awhile before her wound is healed enough that the bandage changes can be stopped. Unfortunately the 3 times a week changes are running from between $75 to about $120 depending upon whether additional medications are needed. And the charges for pet sitting have run $80 per day. Bandit's still has some funding left to cover this week but that is about all. If anyone wishes to donate directly to the vet hospital info is in the first comment. Riley's owner applied to Bandit's K9Care for help, but since we did not have any available funding, we referred him to some other organizations, including Free Animal Doctor (FAD), one of our nonprofit partners. They put up a fundraiser for him, and every penny will go to the veterinary hospital performing the surgery (they supplement the fees). Click link below to donate or share. Thank you!

This cute Corgi boy is dealing with pancreatitis. His owner just started college classes and is looking for work. She has spend over $1,000 on Tucker's medical care but he still needs more hospitalization to pull through. Please consider a donation and/or sharing his fundraiser. Important information while dealing with this heat!

Warm weather can make ponds, lakes and slow-moving water more likely to develop harmful algal blooms, often called blue-green algae or cyanobacteria.

Some blooms can produce toxins that are dangerous to pets. Dogs are especially at risk because they may swim in affected water, drink from it or lick it from their fur after swimming.

Watch for water that looks green, blue-green, slimy, foamy or streaked. Avoid letting pets swim in or drink from water that looks suspicious, and follow posted warnings around lakes and ponds.

Possible signs of toxicity may include:

• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Excessive drooling
• Weakness or collapse
• Difficulty breathing
• Seizures

Bring fresh drinking water for your pet when spending time outdoors. After swimming, rinse your pet with clean water.

If you suspect exposure, contact your veterinarian or an emergency clinic right away. In the West Lafayette area, you can also contact the Purdue University Veterinary Hospital’s Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care Service. Please call ahead before coming in.

Update on Gatsby (see post below)! His surgery is scheduled and we ensured that he will not need to undergo a second MRI. The neurologist put him on prednisone so the scheduled date will allow him to stay on the full course and taper off it. Hopefully a reduction in swelling will make Gatsby feel better as well as to help the surgeon when he operates. Thank you for all of the shares and donations that have made surgery for Gatsby a reality!

Quick Willow update: Willow went back for a check up to the surgeon that set her leg last weak. He said Willow is doing great, and no longer needs to wear the splint. She will remain on limited activity for another 2 weeks, including staying on leash when outside, and going on very short walks. Her skin was irritated from the bandages but hopefully it will clear up with exposure to the air. Willow will wear her collar until it clears up so she won't mess with it. We will hold her funds for a little longer but if not needed for Willow, they will go towards the second surgery for Hope's cleft palate and Gatsby's MRI.
