There has been a lot of interest in our little food pantry this week. I want to answer some of the most common questions I have been getting.
My name is Rob Thew. I am the assistant pastor at Bread of Life Community Church 363 Lindsey Rd. Newburgh, Maine. I also run our food pantry at the same location.
This is a faith based ministry of our church. The Newburgh Regional Community Food Pantry would not exist without Bread of Life Community Church. The church supports the food pantry by paying for utilities, providing the storage facilities, as well as hosting the weekly distribution.
This ministry is staffed entirely by unpaid volunteers, including myself. Most of the volunteers are church members, but there is no requirement that they be.
We do not discriminate whom we serve. We feed the hungry and a need of food is our only requirement. We are supplied primarily by Good Shepherd Food Bank and USDA. USDA requires us to have recipients fill out a simple form.
We do expect increased numbers of recipients and decreased government funding dependent food. We are going to continue to serve as we always have. God will provide.
We do not know how the new funding given to Good Shepherd will affect us. We only know we are blessed to receive food from them, whether it comes freely or at a cost to us.
All pantries have expenses beyond food. We appreciate any and all donations, especially at times like this.
If you are planning to donate, please consider dropping off food if you find a really good price for less perishable staples like: pasta, canned veggies, peanut butter, or ask your local pantry for specific needs. Sometimes our dollar goes further at Walmart or Hannaford, but it costs us or a volunteer money and time to get product there.
It's pantry day tomorrow. It is every Friday 10am to 1pm. If you're hungry, please stop by and get some food. If you're hungry to help others in need, stop by and help or donate.
I love you all.
