Our 3 new guys completed their first week of training with the single man ladder raise.

Frequent repetition of this drill is especially important for our department because we may operate with a smaller engine company where every firefighter must be prepared to work independently and efficiently.

On Friday, June 19 2026, at approximately 9:02 p.m. , the Newburgh Heights Fire Department B-shift responded to a residential structure fire on E 42nd St. Newburgh Heights.

With reports of the second story being fully involved and one occupant still inside 5411 responded with their 3 on-duty personnel and quickly attacked the bulk of the fire on the porch and rescued the occupant still on the first floor simultaneously.

All other occupants safely escaped the structure prior to the arrival of NHFD.

There were no reported injuries from those occupants or the occupant that was rescued. 4 of the occupant’s cats were rescued by the responding mutual aid crews with no reported injuries.

Units from Cuyahoga Heights, Brooklyn Heights, Valley View, and Independence responded quickly through automatic aid to assist with fire suppression, rescue, and medical aid.

SERT FIU investigators responded this morning to determine the cause of the fire.

As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on those who gave everything in service to our nation.

We would like to thank American Legion Post 627 for their support and hosting the 2026 Memorial Day parade.

From all of us at the Newburgh Heights Fire Department, we thank our fallen heroes and the families who carry their legacy forward.

This morning members of the Newburgh Heights Fire Department participated in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training, provided by the Cleveland Clinic and instructed by Lt. Greg Jordan.

This training ensures our crews remain prepared to deliver the highest level of care when it matters most, especially for our youngest patients. We’re proud to continue investing in education, training, and excellence in service to our community.
