On Friday, June 19 2026, at approximately 9:02 p.m. , the Newburgh Heights Fire Department B-shift responded to a residential structure fire on E 42nd St. Newburgh Heights.
With reports of the second story being fully involved and one occupant still inside 5411 responded with their 3 on-duty personnel and quickly attacked the bulk of the fire on the porch and rescued the occupant still on the first floor simultaneously.
All other occupants safely escaped the structure prior to the arrival of NHFD.
There were no reported injuries from those occupants or the occupant that was rescued. 4 of the occupant’s cats were rescued by the responding mutual aid crews with no reported injuries.
Units from Cuyahoga Heights, Brooklyn Heights, Valley View, and Independence responded quickly through automatic aid to assist with fire suppression, rescue, and medical aid.
SERT FIU investigators responded this morning to determine the cause of the fire.
