Camp Newaygo, a program of TrueNorth Community Services, sits on 101 acres of land along a chain of lakes in the Manistee National Forest Region of southwestern Michigan. Our facilities and programs are accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA).

Camp and TrueNorth's "new" Facilities Director has been here less than a year but is doing an amazing job picking up where the directors before him left off. He already has the Camp Newaygo spirit and pride in his work to make Camp Newaygo the best it can be for everyone to enjoy.

Fremont Public Schools Pathfinder Elementary staff spent the afternoon with us at camp, and it was a joy to host.

Lots of teamwork, a few good challenges, and plenty of laughs.

Thanks for letting us be part of your day and your professional development, Pathfinder!

Our year-round staff are still here keeping things moving: getting ready for weddings, tackling maintenance around camp, and welcoming school groups to the property. The lake, the trees, and the golden light are doing their part too. Fall at Camp Newaygo might be our best-kept secret.

Character Champions is officially underway at Newaygo Public Schools! 🎉

Our middle school students paddled canoes, scaled the rock wall, took aim at archery, and tackled team challenges, all while practicing resilience, compassion, and community-mindedness. They even got a taste of what's ahead with a "practice" meeting.

Throughout the year, students will keep meeting with our camp staff to build character through activities, games and more!

Today we're going to get a sneak peek at the first section of the new Wetland Trail and stop off at Hidden Lake. It's an amazing view and great location to teach about a Sphagnum Bog. We're also going to stop at the "Eye of the Bog" where you can see firsthand just how deep the water is below the boardwalk, exceeding 20 feet in some places.

We’re often asked in the summer, “What do you do the rest of the year?” Thursday’s a pretty good answer. We welcomed the American Camp Association Michigan Local Council of Leaders for their meeting, Ridge Catering helped prepare and serve soup for TrueNorth Community Services Empty Bowls fundraiser, and kicked off Character Champions at Grant Public Schools Upper Elementary, bringing lessons on resilience, community-mindedness, and compassion straight to students.

We closed out the evening hosting the Parks in Focus banquet, where participants showed off their photography skills from this summer’s trip to Pictured Rocks.

On Wednesday, we hosted the Newaygo County Influential Women in Leadership Event at Camp Newaygo, in partnership with the River Country Chamber of Commerce of Newaygo County. Thank you to Ridge Catering for serving up a great lunch to celebrate the day.

This year's keynote speaker was Dr. Melissa Bayne, DO, Chief of Medical Staff and OBGYN Section Chief at Corewell Health Ge**er Hospital. She spoke on women's health and mental wellbeing in leadership, drawing on her 16+ years as a rural OBGYN and her work expanding rural medical education.

We also want to give a special shout-out to Hannah Harrington of Third Coast Creative, who was recognized with an award today! Hannah designed Camp Newaygo's 100th history book and serves on the Board of Directors at TrueNorth Community Services.

We love hosting this event every year. Supporting girls and women is a big part of our mission, and it's great to celebrate that alongside our community.
