It's World Ocean Day today! At Don Edwards SF Bay NWR, several species use both ocean and Refuge habitats. It's important to take care of our waterways to keep these animals healthy. Luckily, our everyday actions can make a big difference. Learn more ways to prevent water pollution at mywatershedwatch.org.

We are so grateful to everyone who volunteered at the Refuge's National River Cleanup Day event this past Saturday! Their hard work has made a tangible difference not only in the beauty of the Refuge, but in the health of its wildlife!

Remember to pack out all trash when you visit the Refuge, and be mindful of litter and pollution in your cities too! Storm drain pollution from our cities flows through the Refuge's sensitive habitat.

Huge thanks to HP Inc.'s NorCal Sustainability Group for their continued partnership and hard work! These amazing W**d Warriors spent last Friday morning at Ravenswood Pond SF2 removing invasive ice plant. Clearing invasive species creates essential space for native salt marsh plants to reestablish and thrive. Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time to care for our public lands.

At Don Edwards SF Bay National Wildlife Refuge, we have many endangered species relying on healthy habitatsfor survival. This year on Endangered Species Day, we're highlighting two species that live in our marsh habitats. Both the Salt Marsh Harvest Mouse and California Ridgway's Rail can be affected by storm water pollution flowing through local creeks and into the Refuge's wetlands. So even though we may not be lucky enough to see one of these special species, we all can have a big impact in their protection by keeping pollution out of our cities' storm drains. Check out mywatershedwatch.org for some tips on how to take action!

We're feeling celebratory today beak-cause it's World Migratory Bird Day! Don Edwards SF Bay NWR is critical habitat for millions of migrating birds each year! Its unique protected wetlands offer food and shelter necessary for the weary traveling bird. We all have a role to play in supporting migratory species by keeping the Refuge free of litter and other pollutants that deteriorate their habitat.

If you're feeling inspired, consider joining us next Saturday May 16th at our National River Cleanup Event: EECCleanupMay2026.eventbrite.com.
