It is made up of community members who have experienced barriers in obtaining sustainable work, safe housing and accessible transportation. We deeply care for our community and believe all should be treated fairly and have the ability to live with di

gnity. We are building a movement to fight for justice on critical issues that have impacted our lives. Members of the Newark Think Tank on Poverty are committed to walking with one another on this journey. We also welcome allies from the broader community to join us in our efforts.

10/15 UPDATE: We've reached our current capacity and have paused taking applications. Please continue to watch our posts for updates. The Salvation Army is taking walk in applications Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays, through October 30, from 9:00-12:00 & 1:00-3:00. They are only serving children up to age 14.

In the past we have partnered with The Salvation Army to provide Christmas gift assistance. This year we've decided to take our own applications to help lighten their workload and to serve children 17 years old and younger.

Every 1 in 3 individuals with a disability live in Poverty.

The Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law 35 years ago today, and remains the most comprehensive civil rights law protecting people with disabilities to this day.

This anniversary comes at a time when the rights and dignity of disabled people are under attack. Just this month, President Trump and his allies in Congress slashed Medicaid, one of the most important programs supporting those of us with disabilities.

The ADA was a result of the determination of countless activists who fought for a nation where people with disabilities can live free from discrimination. We work alongside and build upon the resilience of these activists as we continue to make the promises of the ADA realized.

**A livable wage for Newark, Ohio is $26+ (according to MIT). The average hourly wage currently in Newark is $19.12. Average rent is $1200 (some reports $926 but that is not realistic as no postings are under $950) with the average rent a person would still need to make $22.50 an hour at 160 hours a month to make 3x the rent.
