As the weather warms up, more people are out and about on their bikes, but it is important to ride safely.

The past two weeks, BikeNewark has partnered with Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT), Delaware Commute Solutions, Newark Bike Project, Wilmington Area Planning Council and the University of Delaware to offer Bicycle-safety checkpoints at the pedestrian intersection of The Green and Delaware Avenue.

FirstFriday Ride for March 6 canceled.

Because of low temperatures, chance of rain and early darkness we will cancel this month's FirstFriday Ride for March.

We should have more comfortable conditions next month with more light and higher temperatures.

See you next month on April 3 at 5:30pm weather permitting.

🅿️ 🤷𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙜𝙤 𝙗𝙞𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙙𝙚𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙨 𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜: 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜.

That's one of the main findings of a new study which focuses on the significant difficulty cargo bike riders in Ireland have finding secure, convenient parking. This struggle – concludes the study – limits how much they can use their cargo bikes.

🫣 The paradox: in Ireland, cargo bikes seem to fit better within spaces designed for cars, than in the bike racks currently provided (automobility vs. velomobility)
💡 The solution: create more inclusive cycle parking solutions; for on-street, off-street and residential settings alike.

BikeNewark’s Mark Deshon, Karl Hassler, and Michael Smith provided set-up support at yesterday’s Everyone Gets Home Summit in Dover, Del. This summit, which dealt with bicycle and pedestrian safety, was organized by Bike Delaware, one of BikeNewark’s seven partner organizations.
