As we count down to our 28th Annual Albert Shanker Scholarship Night on May 6th, we’re proud to spotlight one of our past recipients—Danielle Thomas (née Demmings), Class of 2003.

Because of the support from the NTU Education Foundation, Danielle was able to begin her journey into higher education—one that has led her to success as a Billing Operations Supervisor today. Her story is a powerful reminder of what opportunity, investment, and belief in our students can achieve.

✨ Where Are They Now? Alumni Spotlight ✨

In 2014, Rosslin Mensah received a scholarship from the NTU Education Foundation as she prepared to begin her college journey. As a Newark Public Schools alumna and first-generation college student, that support represented more than financial assistance — it was a powerful vote of confidence in her future.

Today, Rosslin is making an incredible impact as the Senior Program Operations Coordinator for Braven at the City College of New York, where she helps support leadership development and manages programs that empower over 200 college students each academic year.

Her journey is a powerful reminder of the ripple effect of investing in students. What started as an opportunity has come full circle — now Rosslin is helping open doors for the next generation.

In 2012, Emily Cohen was an NTU Scholarship Award Recipient with a dream. Today, she’s living it.

With the support of the NTU Education Foundation, Emily began her journey at Rutgers University, went on to earn her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from New York Medical College, and has now spent 7 years as an outpatient orthopedic physical therapist—helping people heal and thrive every day.

Stories like Emily’s remind us why investing in students matters. 💙
