Our legal team was recently at NHIEC masjid, where our attorneys Maryam and Noran led a Know Your Rights training to help high school students better understand their rights and how to respond when those rights are challenged.

From immigration and law enforcement encounters to discrimination and other civil rights concerns, knowing your rights is an important first step toward protecting yourself, your family, and your community.

Interested in bringing a Know Your Rights training to your mosque, organization, school, or community? CAIR-NJ offers trainings across New Jersey.

We’re taking the necessary steps to curb anti-Muslim hate and misconceptions about Islam in the classroom. 📚

CAIR-NJ’s “Educator’s Guide to Islamic Religious Practices” equips teachers and school administrators with the knowledge and practical guidance they need to better understand their Muslim students and create more inclusive classrooms.

From Islamic practices and common misconceptions to student rights, halal food, prayer spaces, Eid holidays, and navigating sensitive topics like Palestine and 9/11, the guide provides schools with the tools to foster understanding.

New Resource! 📖 Educators and administrators: Read the guide and share it with your colleagues!

Our “Educator’s Guide to Islamic Religious Practices” helps teachers and administrators better understand the religious practices and needs of their Muslim students, build cultural competence, and create more inclusive and thoughtful classrooms.

The guide covers common Islamic practices and misconceptions, legal protections for students, and practical guidance on accommodations including halal food, prayer spaces, and Eid holidays. It also includes guidance on navigating sensitive topics such as Palestine and 9/11.

This guide is one way CAIR-NJ works proactively to help prevent anti-Muslim bias, misunderstandings, and incidents in our schools.
Fewer misunderstandings. More inclusive schools.

US Senate nominee Justin Murphy made blatantly Islamophobic remarks at a community forum last weekend. When asked about the comments by POLITICO New Jersey CAIR-NJ Public Affairs Director Naureen Akhter had this to say: “Justin Murphy seems to be confused about what our country was founded on. Freedom of religion extends to everyone – not only those of Judeo-Christian faiths. To characterize Muslims as people ‘who want to chop your heads off’ is a disgusting, bigoted claim about the 2 billion adherents to a widely practiced faith. We encourage Murphy to attend a food pantry distribution at a local mosque or a community iftar to see for himself what Muslims are about.
“Moreover, to frame Muslims in America as a ‘chain migration’ problem neglects the 250-year history of Muslims in this country – many of whom were forced here through the Transatlantic slave trade. But misdirecting anger from this administration’s cost of living crisis is nothing new. Immigrants always bear the frustration from failed government policies.
“Muslims aren’t going anywhere. We encourage Murphy to make his peace with that.”

A new school year is here, and Muslim students and families deserve to feel prepared, informed, and supported.
CAIR-NJ’s Back to School Guide is designed to help Muslim parents and students navigate common questions and challenges they may encounter at school, from Eid advocacy and daily and Friday prayers to Ramadan, modest clothing, religious expression, and knowing your rights as a student.

Save this post, share it with a Muslim parent or student, and keep the guide handy throughout the school year.
Every student deserves to learn in an environment where their faith and rights are respected.

All-expenses-paid trips sound great, but not when they come from advocacy organizations with a clear agenda.
Educators play an important role in shaping how our children understand the world, including complex and sensitive issues like Israel and Palestine. That’s why CAIR-NJ has filed an ethics complaint against Columbia High School Principal for accepting an all-expenses-paid trip to Israel. This gift jeopardizes his ability to be impartial, and exceeds the limits established by the state ethics commission.
Public school officials should be held to the highest standards of transparency, impartiality, and public trust. We’re calling for a full investigation.
No public school official should be taking propaganda trips to a nation guilty of genocide.

Jersey strong đŸ’ȘđŸœ! New Jersey leads the country in number of Muslims elected to public office. This doesn’t happen without decades of civic education and organizing work CAIR and other groups have been doing to get our people involved.

Representation is great. Let’s couple that with real wins for our community.
