Mind precedes all things — Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. knew that and he used it well. The heart is a reflection of the mind and the mind is a reflection of the heart. This chinese character 心 represents both heart and mind!

What is Forest Therapy?

Forest Therapy is a practice that supports health and wellness through guided immersion in forests and other environments to promote the well-being of both people and the land. It is inspired by Shinrin-yoku, the Japanese practice of “Forest Bathing.” In Forest Bathing, people spend time in forested areas to enhance health, wellness, and happiness. In Forest Therapy, people are guided through a clearly defined sequence of invitations to slow down, allow the senses to open, and experience the environment to deepen the reciprocal relationship between participants and the forest. This supports the wholeness and well-being of both.

These Slow Walks in the Forest are typically one- to two-kilometers long and fit for all ages and physical conditions. Invitations are open-ended. There is no expectation for what participants should experience or receive. Rather, participants spend time in silence, listening and feeling with a quiet and accepting presence. They become reconnected with their senses and their innate creative potential is tapped, which allows the imagination to awaken.

In our world, we experience and feel the weight of collective energy. The global and daily stressors of life surround each of us. Group Reiki is an opportunity to gather in the sacred space of the community to receive energetic healing and restoration to help find our individual and collective understanding of our lives.

These sessions are perfect for anyone interested in experiencing Holy Fire® Reiki energy healing. Each session begins with a guided experience, and each person will receive a mini Reiki energy healing treatment. Afterward, participants are invited to share their experiences and ask questions.

This group Reiki offering is led by Veronica Guevara-Lovgren . Veronica teaches and shares Reiki with people and animals.

Donation: Adults: $10-$20-$30 suggested sliding scale donation. Youths under 18: Free, but must be registered and accompanied by an adult.

The Newark Center for Meditative Culture (NCMC) has teamed up with HIKEOLUTION ( Hikeolution )to host a Qi Gong Hike: Introducing the community to the gentle, powerful practice of Qi Gong that can heal, strengthen, and lead to a state of mindfulness and calm.

Qi Gong (pronounced chi gong) is a healing practice developed in China thousands of years ago and is one of the pillars of Chinese medicine. Qi Gong combines posture, movement, breathing and focussed intent. It is a subtle, gentle practice of moving and balancing your Qi (life energy).

Qi Gong is made up of various exercises that optimise the energy in the body, mind and soul, with the intention to maintain and enhance health and wellbeing, without depleting us of energy. Regularly practicing Qi Gong has psychological and physical benefits. The silent hike portion will be led by Keyana of Hikeolution and the Qi Gong segment will be led by NCMC Spiritual Advisor, Ib'nallah Kazi!

Would you like to…

Reduce stress?

Relieve chronic pain?

Refresh your mind?

Recharge your energy?

and boost your immune system

while learn a healing tradition with thousands of years of history…?

Join us for this special gathering for wellness and longevity!

Our Story

NCMC is a diverse urban community of meditation practitioners serving the Greater Newark Area. We are an independent center with most of our programs currently held at art galleries and parks. Our programs are mostly based on the secular and spiritual teachings from Buddhist tradition and also include other wisdom traditions. Our programs comprise of meditation classes, daylong retreats, sitting groups, workshops, and nature programs. We participate in compassionate action and social justice events that have so far advocated environmental justice, food rights, and peace. Attention is also paid to multiculturalism and the diverse populations of the Greater Newark Area. We are also engaged in local community events and making presentations in order to educate the community about meditation. NCMC is a volunteer-run organization with a strong commitment to openness and diversity.
