St. Vincent Haven St. Vincent Haven is a 50-bed emergency, program-based shelter for men 18 and older who are experiencing homelessness.

Residents receive safe shelter, support and advocacy. Assistance is provided to residents to help them find employment, improve educational skills, address mental health, health or substance abuse issues and permanent housing.

We are deeply grateful to recognize Rick and Kathleen Gummer as Premier Sponsors of the St. Vincent Haven Fall Fling!

The Gummer family has been faithful patrons of the Haven’s mission, giving so generously to ensure that God’s love remains at the heart of all we do. Their generosity goes beyond financial support—they have been leaders in making St. Dismas Chapel a sacred place of prayer, reflection, and hope for the Haven Family.

Why St. Dismas? St. Dismas is traditionally known as the Good Thief, the man crucified beside Jesus who, in his final moments, turned to Christ in faith. Jesus responded with mercy and the promise of paradise (Luke 23:39–43). His story reminds us that no one is beyond the reach of God’s love, that every person has dignity, and that hope is always possible—even in life’s most difficult moments.

These truths are at the heart of St. Vincent Haven. Every resident deserves to be welcomed with compassion, treated with dignity, and reminded that his story is not over. Through the Gummers’ leadership and generosity, St. Dismas Chapel offers our Haven Family a place to encounter God’s mercy, find peace, and nurture hope for the future.

Rick and Kathleen, thank you for helping make this sacred space possible and for standing so faithfully beside the men we serve. Your generosity is a beautiful testament to what it means to love our neighbors as Christ loves us. We are blessed to have you as part of our Haven Family!

This week's reflection at St. Vincent Haven is inspired by the beautiful Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi, a timeless call to embody peace and love in our community.

As we strive to be instruments of peace, let us remember:

"Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy..."

As we navigate the challenges of our world, let's come together to foster understanding, compassion, and joy. In giving, we receive; in loving, we find our true purpose.

Join us at St. Vincent Haven as we continue to support each other and spread these powerful messages in our lives and community. Together, we can illuminate the darkness and bring hope where it is needed most.

A Beautiful Gift on the Feast of St. Michael

Yesterday, on the Feast of St. Michael the Archangel, St. Vincent Haven received a truly special gift: this beautiful statue of St. Michael from Jeff and Susie Kalinoski.

The statue was blessed by Fr. Michael Donahue, O.P., of St. Patrick Church in Columbus, before making its way to The Haven on September 29.

St. Michael is known as a protector and defender, and we are grateful to have his presence here at The Haven—a reminder of God’s protection, strength, and love for every man who walks through our doors.

Thank you, Jeff and Susie, for this beautiful expression of faith and generosity. And thank you, Fr. Michael, for blessing this sacred gift.

We are truly blessed.
