What we're dealing with here goes beyond mere neglect. District employees were aware of ongoing bullying and, given the identifying markers of the Black parent making the complaints, they chose to ignore and deny the existence of any wrongdoing...until it was too late! We are in the midst of an assault on our children; not by some distant entity who is unfamiliar with our condition but by local individuals in power whose agenda to dismantle initiatives that bring justice and equity in education is now on full display. Shameful! Disturbing! Oppression on all fronts.

"The mother of a Newark special education student is suing the district and his school, accusing officials of racially-motivated negligence that allowed her son to be bullied and s*xually assaulted by an older classmate when he was 6."

Verbal and physical abuse that culminated with the s*xual assault occurred from February to May of 2019 at Oliver Street School, according to the suit filed Dec. 14 in state Superior Court in Newark.

"In an Aug. 28 letter to Newark Superintendent Roger León, the director of the OCR’s New York office, Rachel Pomerantz, wrote that the department reviewed 80 complaints of student-to-student s*xual harassment and five complaints of employee-to-student s*xual harassment, including s*xual assault, filed between the 2017-18 and 2019-20 school years, and found nine Title IX violations."

The U.S. Department of Education said Newark Public Schools failed to respond to various complaints of s*xual harassment and assault dating back to 2017.
