The Newark Area Welfare Committee works to serve the community with our Emergency Assistance Program, Food Cupboard, Holiday Food Boxes, and Shoes for In-Need Children Programs. Our organization operates solely from donations from local individuals and businesses, charitable and service clubs, and grants from the City of Newark. We also receive funds from the State of Delaware, the Wilmington Flower Market, Good Neighbor Day, the New Castle County Council, sales from our Bean Soup mix, The Christmas Shop, and responses from our annual appeal letter.

Back to School, Backed by Community!

This week we delivered backpacks to local schools making sure our students start the year ready and supported.

Every item was packed with one goal in mind: no child should have to worry about the essentials when they should be focused on learning, making friends, and enjoying the new school year.

A huge thank you to our volunteers, donors, and community partners who made this possible. Your generosity puts a backpack on a shoulder and one less worry on a family's mind. 💙

The 1 in 7B Foundation is helping our neighbors in need feel refreshed and cared for by providing showers and clean clothing to those who may not otherwise have access to these basic necessities.

On Fridays in Newark neighbors can find the 1 in 7B trailer at
Calvary Baptist Church (215 E. Delaware Avenue, Newark, DE)
⏰ Starting at 10:00 AM

This is a wonderful opportunity to support our neighbors with dignity, compassion, and a helping hand. 💙

💙📚 Giving Back to Our Community! 📚💙

Our Outreach Coordinator, Katie Hughes, has been busy making sure students in the Christina School District have the supplies they need for a successful school year!

Katie recently received some help from Girl Scouts Christa and Peggy of Troop 127. Together, they prepared 10 book bags filled with school supplies to support local students. 🎒✏️📓

A big thank you to Katie, Christa, Peggy, for helping us make a difference in the lives of local children! 💙

In April, Lyn received the Paul Harris Fellow Award!!! The Paul Harris Fellow recognition is one of Rotary's most prestigious honors, acknowledging individuals who demonstrate exceptional commitment to Rotary's mission of service above self. This recognition is awarded to those who contribute, or have contributions made in their name, of $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation, though it also serves as an award for exemplary work in community service or helping those in need. Earlier this month, students from Kindergarten - 5th grade at Newark Charter School collected more than 1,500 items for the NAWC Food Cupboard! Their goal was 1,000 items to earn a schoolwide spirit day, and they far surpassed it.

A heartfelt thank you to the school community: students, families, and staff, for supporting this effort and demonstrating the power of giving back. It’s inspiring to see students learning the value of volunteering and helping others at such a young age. Your generosity and community spirit make a real difference!
