When Becca Valle began experiencing constant headaches, she assumed it was stress.

But the pain became more frequent. More intense. Different.

After persistent symptoms and medical evaluation, doctors discovered the cause: a brain tumor.

Her story isn’t about fear — it’s about awareness.

Brain tumors don’t always begin with dramatic symptoms. They often start with subtle, progressive neurological changes.

Headaches that deserve medical attention are typically:
• New and persistent
• Worsening over time
• Different from your usual pattern
• Accompanied by nausea, vision changes, confusion, or weakness

Most headaches are not brain tumors.
But ongoing neurological changes should never be ignored.

If something feels different, document it. Advocate for yourself. Ask questions.

Early detection starts with paying attention.

Sad truths about lung cancer . . .

The only cancer for which a doctor cannot simply order a life saving CT scan. The hoops are insane:
- gotta be between 50-80 yrs old
- gotta have a 20 pack-year smoking history
- gotta be either smoking currently or quit within the last 15 years

These required by Congress, Medicare, Medicaid rules which then the private insurers also require perhaps to save money?

“Lung cancer kills more people in the United States than any other cancer, more than the next 3 most dangerous cancers combined but experts say that many of these deaths are preventable. When it’s caught early and treated, four in five patients can be cured.”

Lung cancer, if diagnosed at stage 1, the five-year survival rate can be around 70% to 90%. For stage 2, the survival rate is often in the range of about 50% to 60%.

Because of the insane requirements above too few people qualify to get a CT early enough to be Stage 1 or 2. So, they get diagnosed late and are in Stages 3 or 4.

For stage 3 lung cancer, the five-year survival rate typically ranges around 15% to 30% . For Stage 4, the most advanced stage, the five-year survival rate is often in the range of about 5% to 10%.

Depending on your personality this could be ethically/morally abhorant ; and/or financially sillly since the insurance costs of covering late stage lung cancer are extremely high while a $400 test early has a very good chance of curing the patient with no more insurance costs other than monitoring.
