Press Release on Minneapolis

Cindy M. Rodriguez
National President - NLPOA
10040 W. Cheyenne Ave. 170-179
Las Vegas, NV 89129 May 27, 2020

To our esteemed members and nations communities:

On Monday, Minneapolis witnessed the tragic and unnecessary killing of Mr. George Floyd at the hands of uniformed police officers. This death occurred during a subsequent use of force while Mr. Floyd was in custody. A bystander’s video recorded Mr. Floyd telling officers that he could not breathe. A uniformed officer was seen placing his knee on Mr. Floyd’s neck for an extended period of time.

Every day our committed members respond to thousands of calls for service and take subjects into custody without incident. These well-trained heroes follow the nation’s highest standards and accreditation for use of force in order to minimize injuries to citizens during police interactions.

The National Executive Board of the National Latino Peace Officers Association (NLPOA) strongly supports the decision of Minneapolis Chief Medaria Arradondo in the termination of officers directly involved in this catastrophic loss of life. We believe it is imperative that we hold ourselves and our brothers in sisters in blue accountable. We will continue to build the bridges of trust that have been damaged and strongly affirm to our communities that we continue to hold the sanctity of life in the highest regard. Our vigorous prayers go out to Mr. Floyd, his family and all communities affected.

The National Latino Peace Officers Association (NLPOA). The NLPOA is the largest Latino law enforcement organization in the United States with chapters serving communities from California to New York. Our members consist of Peace Officers from federal, state and local levels throughout the country.

The main objectives of the NLPOA are to create a fraternal/professional Association that provides its members and members of the community with career training; conferences and workshops to promote education and career advancement; mentoring; and a strong commitment to community service.

NLPOA Chapters across the United States have extended their concerns by reaching out into their communities by responding to their needs in various ways, to include but not limited to: scholarship programs, Christmas Programs, youth programs, mentoring programs and training programs.

Sincerely,

Cindy M. Rodriguez
National Latino Peace Officers Association
National President
