Happy Sunday and Welcome to the final day of Blackout week, Day 8!

Day 8 is “Shop Only Newark Black-Owned All Day”.

This may be our last day publicly supporting and encouraging others to support Black-Owned businesses, but hopefully we accomplished shedding light on the many doable ways you can continue to choose Black-Owned services for your next purchase or participation in your own community.

That being said, the city we are representing today of course, is Newark. Some of you may have shopped at local Newark stores already in the past, but I will give a directory for some locations anyways.

As always, please go out or go online and shop Black-Owned. Support your friends and family. Sharing their work is free!

Welcome to Day 7 of Blackout week and I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend!

Day 7 of Blackout week is “Gift a loved one something from a Black-Owned business”.

Today we highlight the local Central Newark wholesale/retail store which is a favorite of Chad School Foundation Program Assistant Asha , “Queen African & Caribbean Market”. She stated "I have personally shopped there a few times and continue to do so. Some of the items that I love to get from there are their imported black soap for my sensitive skin and white yams that my culture (Jamaican) uses often in their cooking. As a person who just moved to Newark, New Jersey 2 years ago and came from a predominantly Caribbean neighborhood where my cultural foods were more accessible, it is comforting to have a store to find those same goods in my neighborhood."

So, stop by today if you are in the area and try some genuine African and Caribean products with your friends and/or family!

Happy Friday and Welcome to Day 6 of Blackout week!

Day 6 of Blackout week is “Buy a stock in a Black-Owned company”.

We chose to highlight these publicly traded companies:

Urban One, Inc. (UONEK)

The largest Black-owned broadcasting company in the U.S. that operates different radio stations and TV One. Founded by Cathy Hughes and went public in 1999.

Axsome Therapeutics (AXSM)

A biopharmaceutical company that is developing new therapies for disorders affecting the central nervous system and plans to file two new drug applications this year with the FDA for major depressive disorder (MDD) and acute treatment of migraines. The founder, CEO, and chairman is Herriot Tabuteau, MD.

American Shared Hospital Services (AMS)

A healthcare company that leases medical equipment to hospitals and medical centers. This company was founded by Dr. Ernest A. Bates, M.D in 1977.

Citizens Bancshares Corporation (CZBS)

This is a financial institution that is the holding company of Citizens Trust Bank, which is the largest and oldest Black-owned bank in the United States. They have been operating for about a century and are increasing in profit. Now is time to buy stock here and receive generous annual dividends!

Carver Bancorp (CARV)

A bank based in Harlem, New York and founded by the famous Black scientist George Washington Carver in 1948. Their profit is expected to rise this year so try and become a part of the profit.

Whether you have interest in media entertainment, research, healthcare, or banking, you can find a Black-owned company to invest in right now!
