Today was our first annual membership retreat for the Parents Unified for Local School Education (PULSE). We invited back past members of the organization and bought them up to date with everything we’ve been working on.

Our next Listening Project will be focused on exploring the effects of systemic racism on food production & security with Bilal Walker of Al-Munir Consulting, LLC who also manages two urban farms in the city of Newark and Brenda Scott of Bessie Green Community, Inc who oversee their food distribution programs.

Information gathered here will be used to develop the Equity or Else Quality of Life agenda with the Journey for Justice Alliance.

36 grassroots organizations nationwide are taking part in this campaign and hosting on the ground listening tours to gather feedback to build this campaign which we will take to our elected officials in September!

PULSE, in partnership with the Journey 4 Justice Alliance (), is currently organizing listening tour projects in the city of Newark around quality of life issues. Our goal is to assess the impact of systemic racism on various basic quality of life institutions in our communities such as education, safety, housing, healthcare, climate/ environmental and economic development.

Next Friday, January 14, we will have Dr. Chris T. Pernell ( )speak to us about the impact of systemic racism on our healthcare system and policies. We will also be brainstorming solutions to address our systems in hopes of improving the quality of life issues in Newark and nationwide.
