Christmas at Sea

Christmas at Sea Learn more at http://seamenschurch.org/christmas-at-sea. Christmas at Sea is the volunteer knitting program of the Seamen's Church Institute.

The longest continuous charity knitting program in the US, supporting men and women in the maritime industry, under the auspices of the Seamen's Church Institute. Since 1898 (during the Spanish American War), volunteer knitters and crocheters have created handmade hats, scarves, socks and vests, collected toiletries and other goods, packed and distributed gifts to mariners who work far from home d

uring the holiday season. Gift packages include a handknit garment (hat, scarf, vest or socks), a personal letter, and information on SCI’s services for mariners along with useful items like hand lotion, lip balm, and toothbrushes—things difficult to come by when working long stretches on the water. We do this to say "thanks!" to the seafarers and mariners who bring us over 90% of the products we use and whose efforts 365 days a year make our lives more comfortable. Today's the day! It's the official launch of Untangled, our new page for Christmas at Sea ⚓️ volunteers.

🥁 Drumroll...here's the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1378526232491972
This is a private (as opposed to public) page, but it's very easy to join.

This Christmas at Sea page will remain up for the time being. There are so many fabulous memories, photographs, and stories. I don't want to erase a thing.

To stay connected with news and information about the Seamen's Church Institute, be sure to like and follow the SCI page; https://www.facebook.com/seamenschurch, where I'll continue to post photographs and feature "shout outs" to donors.

Countdown to launch!

I am looking forward to inviting you to join Untangled, your new membership page for Christmas at Sea volunteers. As we slowly phase out the current Christmas at Sea page, you will be able to stay connected and up to date with news and stories by following The Seamen’s Church Institute’s (SCI) page (www.facebook.com/seamenschurch), where we will continue to showcase and feature your handmade gifts for mariners.

I envision Untangled to be your #1 resource for questions and answers about patterns, fibers, and colors; a place to meet and mingle with other Christmas at Sea volunteers; an encouraging and nurturing forum to share projects and spark creativity; incorporating fun and camaraderie—all for a good cause.
