Bridging The Gap

Bridging The Gap BTG is focused on improving early literacy for young children by designing with parents, Parent Learning Communities (PLCs).

PLCs offer our parents personalized coaching, free tools and resources, and a supportive community of learning parents. Did you know by the time a child born into poverty turns 4 years old, that child has heard approximately 30 MILLION LESS WORDS than her wealthier peers? Did you know by the time that same child turns 5, the likelihood she will be ready for kindergarten has already been sliced in

half? By the end of third grade, if she is not reading on grade level, some studies show she is 13 times less likely to graduate high school, thus churning along the cycle of poverty for another generation. The fight for our children’s future starts at the earliest stages of their development. Bridging The Gap (BTG) believes this fight begins and ends with the parent because the parent is truly the first teacher of the child, making the parent the first defense against this impending literacy development gap. But if the parent is the first teacher of the child, we at BTG want to answer the question, “Who is the first teacher of the parent?”. This Page will feature event information for upcoming workshops & trainings. We will frequently post articles, reports, parenting strategies, videos and tutorials with the common purpose of educating, strengthening and supporting the parents we serve and those like them. Come join us as we build a new future for our most precious assets, our children.
