What a day for Newark’s arts educators!

150+ Newark Public Schools teachers gathered for an inspiring keynote from Donna Walker-Kuhne, NJPAC’s Senior Advisor for Social Impact and author of Champions for the Arts. Donna shared the lessons of a career spent opening doors to the arts for every community, and every teacher went home with a copy of her book to carry that spirit into their classrooms.

Huge thanks to our Arts Education Professional Development team for months of planning and care that made this such a special day for Newark Board of Education teachers.

Witness Backstage Pathways participants transform the Betty Wold Johnson stage for an upcoming performance of the New Jersey Symphony during a Carpentry Masterclass instructed by IATSE Local 21 crew.

This is an example of one of the many unique opportunities offered by Backstage Pathways, a program allowing young artists to explore the full scope of technical theater — shop safety, scenic design, set construction, lighting and sound — taught by professional teaching artists.
