During the Lenten season, the Student Council at St. John the Apostle School in Clark conducted a “Together We Make A Difference” drive to benefit clients of Catholic Charities. School families generously donated a wide variety of personal hygiene items for men, women, children, babies, and entire families and then assembled over 80 Blessing Bags. Before the Blessing Bags were distributed, they were blessed by Rev. Gabriel Camacho, Spiritual Director at St. John the Apostle School. His blessing was a heartfelt reminder that these bags contained not only essential items, but also the prayers, kindness, and compassion of the school community. Each bag became a tangible expression of hope, dignity, and God's love for those who would receive them.
The Blessing Bags were thoughtfully assembled for children, teens, men, women, and families. Each bag included basic necessities such as toothbrushes, soap, and other personal hygiene items. In addition, students added special touches to make each bag more personal and comforting — fun activities and small toys for children, hand lotion for women, warm socks for men, and other thoughtful items designed to bring encouragement and care.
These donations provide much more than practical assistance. While the bags help meet personal hygiene needs and offer comfort to individuals and families staying in agency shelters, they also send an important message: that each recipient is remembered and valued. A special note of thanks to Keira De Maio, Principal, and to Lia Almeida, Coordinator of the Student Council and its members for coordinating the Blessing Bag Drive.
We are very grateful to the student council members and the entire school community for their compassion, generosity, and dedication to helping others. Their efforts truly reflect the spirit of caring for neighbors in need and making a positive difference in the lives of others. Thank you St. John the Apostle School!
