New Community Corporation NCC is one of the largest, most comprehensive community development organizations in the U.S.

In 1967, a rebellion tore through Newark’s Central Ward in response to years of racially targeted discrimination, economic disinvestment, political disenfranchisement and police brutality—issues that resonate in today’s political climate. But while New Community was born in 1968 from the ashes of racism, poverty and despair, its essence was deeply rooted in the strength, resolve and dedication of men and women, Newark residents, to help themselves improve the quality of their lives and their community. Today, New Community Corporation is recognized as one of the largest, most comprehensive community development corporations in the U.S. We have been at the vanguard of providing safe, decent and attractive housing for low-income residents for more than 50 years. Our vast array of services are provided under a comprehensive network and reach every stage of life. We offer a one-stop resource center, early childhood education, youth services, workforce training, adult continuing education, family transitional housing, food pantry, mental health services, extended care for seniors, a community newsletter and arts and cultural events.

Proceeds benefit New Community Career and Technical Institute (NCCTI), helping students prepare for meaningful careers. We’ll also celebrate 30 years of our Youth Automotive Technician Program!

Three new sponsorship opportunities are available:

• NCCTI Scholarship — $5,000: Uniforms and supplies for 10 students; includes a foursome.
• Reading on Level — $3,000: Literacy support for 30 three-year-olds; includes a twosome.
• High School Equivalency — $2,500: Helps 10 students work toward their credentials; includes a twosome.

Make a difference for our students with a fun night at the rink!

New Community Career and Technical Institute (NCCTI) is holding a roller-skating fundraiser on Oct. 16. You can help provide students with valuable resources, opportunities and support. Help us reach our goal of 50 tickets!

When: Oct. 16
Time: 5:30-8:30 p.m.
Location: Branch Brook Park Roller Skating Center, 24 Clifton Ave., Newark, NJ

Each ticket costs $26 and includes skate rental, two slices of pizza, and soda.

Can’t join us? You can still make a difference by sponsoring a student’s ticket.

New Community’s Harmony House Director Jackie Andrews attended Monarch Housing Associates’ fifth annual “Housing as a Human Right” conference on Sept. 23 at the Hilton East Brunswick in East Brunswick, N.J.

This year’s theme, “Access, Stability, & Production,” brought together housing professionals, policymakers, advocates and community members to explore ways to expand access to housing, help people remain securely housed and increase housing opportunities across New Jersey.
